The View’s Whoopi Goldberg Heckled by Audience Member — Called ‘Old Broad’ On Live TV
Whoopi Goldberg is owning the title of “old broad” after she was heckled by an audience member during the January 18 episode of The View. Whoopi confronted the individual after the moderator was called an “old broad” on live TV. Whoopi was sitting down at The View table as the episode kicked off when the person shouted out the comment.
“Did you just call me an old broad? Yeah?” Whoopi asked the attendee, as the crowd broke out in laughter.
The show then cut to a woman wearing a large fur hat, in the audience.
“Did she?” Joy Behar asked.
“Yeah. She said: ‘Yo, broad,’ and I was like: ‘Hey,'” Whoopi replied.
“She said, ‘You old broad,’ and I was like, hey, it’s Wednesday, and I am an old broad, and happy about it,” Whoopi proudly proclaimed.
Whoopi’s co-host, Sunny Hostin, pointed out that being called an “old broad” is better than “the alternative,” and the moderator agreed.
She said — “The alternative is not attractive to any of us. We all want to be old broads and old dudes, you know?”
The View cameras reportedly zoomed in on the woman, who appeared to hold no ill will against the host, throughout the broadcast.
Shocked viewers took to Twitter to sound off about the unexpected chat show ruckus.
One person wrote — “The crowd is hype this morning on @TheView #TheView.”
Another stunned viewer tweeted — “Whoopi thought they said ‘Old broad’ #TheView.”
A third chimed in — “I love #WhoopiGoldberg and her spirit. She’s one of my absolute favorite celebs @TheView #TheView.”
In October, Whoopi used The View stage to shut down a written narrative that described her appearance in the movie “Till.” The film reviewer claimed that the actress wore a fat suit to play Alma Carthan, Mamie Till’s mother and Emmett’s grandmother.
“There was a young lady who writes for one of the magazines, and she was distracted by my fat suit, in her review,” Whoopi said, at the time. “I don’t really care how you felt about the movie, but you should know that was not a fat suit, that was me. That was steroids. Remember last year? I assume you don’t watch the show, or you would know that was not a fat suit.”
The host continued — “It’s okay to not be a fan of a movie, but you want to leave people’s looks out. Just comment on the acting. And if you have a question, ask somebody. I’m sure you didn’t mean to be demeaning.”
Last week, Whoopi actually mocked her co-host, Joy Behar’s outfit during a lighthearted cast exchange. Joy was dressed in black pants and a black shirt, topped with a black and white blazer.
Co-host, Sara Haines, chanted — “Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!” before Whoopi chimed in — “Didn’t you try to sell me some sneakers … at Foot Locker?”
