What Comes Next for the Chrisley Clan as Todd and Julie Serve a Combined 19 Years Behind Bars
Todd and Julie Chrisley surrendered to authorities to begin their respective prison sentences for tax fraud on Tuesday, raising questions about what comes next for them and their family as they serve a combined 19 years behind bars.
Todd, 53, was sentenced to 12 years at Federal Prison Camp Pensacola in Florida, and Julie, 50, was sentenced to 7 years and will be housed at the Federal Medical Center Lexington in Lexington, Kentucky. Todd’s prison is a minimum security facility while Julie’s is medium security.
The Chrisley Knows Best couple was convicted in June of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and tax fraud. Prosecutors proved that the pair took out loans to fund extravagant lifestyles while dodging taxes and hiding money from the IRS.
“The Chrisleys have built an empire based on the lie that their wealth came from dedication and hard work,” a statement from prosecutors read, per a New York Times report.
“The jury’s unanimous verdict sets the record straight: Todd and Julie Chrisley are career swindlers who have made a living by jumping from one fraud scheme to another, lying to banks, stiffing vendors, and evading taxes at every corner.”
Prosecutors called Todd “the mastermind” of the duo’s tax and bank fraud scheme. They believe that Julie played a lesser role in the famous couple’s crimes.
Todd is scheduled to be released in 2035. He will be 65 years old if he serves out his complete sentence. If Julie serves her full sentence, she will be freed in 2030, at the age of 57. Both Todd and Julie will be able to participate in various recreational outlets, such as sports, music, and crafts. They will both face 16 months probation, following their prison stints.
The couple’s 16-year-old son, Grayson, and adopted daughter, Chloe, were both placed in the custody of their eldest shared daughter, Savannah. Savannah, 25, recently gave an update on the minor children on her podcast, Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley.
“I come home Tuesday, and I have custody of a 16-year-old and a 10-year-old, and we spend our first Thanksgiving, not as a family,” Savannah said, during a November 22 episode.
Todd and Julie are also parents to a 26-year-old son, Chase. Todd shares daughter Lindsie, 33, and son Kyle, 31, with ex-wife, Teresa Terry.
Todd and Julie adopted Kyle’s biological daughter, Chloe, after winning custody, in 2016. In December, Angela Johnson, Chloe’s biological mother, announced that she was seeking to regain custody of her child in light of the sentencing.
The clan’s USA reality show, Chrisley Knows Best, debuted in 2014. The show, along with the spinoff series, Growing Up Chrisley, have reportedly been canceled. A source told Entertainment Weekly that episodes shot ahead of the couple’s trial could possibly air next year.
Todd and Julie used their podcast, Chrisley Confessions, to communicate with fans throughout their legal ordeal. Todd shared that their faith was helping to sustain them after the guilty verdicts were announced.
“As a family, we are still united and standing firm in our positions and in our faith. We don’t waver in our faith,” Todd said in June. “Now listen. Are we disappointed? Are we hurt? Yes, but we know that God has a purpose for everything.”
