Jenna Bush Hager Slams ‘Today’ Show Co-Hosts As ‘The Worst’

While talking about book clubs, Jenna Bush Hager had a difficult time with some of her Today show co-hosts and even blasted them for being so cynical.

Jenna Bush Hager

Jenna, 48, dropped by the flagship TODAY show to give the hosts some advice on how to improve their reading. She gave the hosts — Al Roker, Craig Melvin, Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Carson Daly — some pointers on how to fit more reading into their days. However, the other hosts weren’t as on board as she would have loved them to be and instead made jokes about Jenna’s reading culture.

An excited Jenna advised the hosts seated on the couch beside her that improving their time management skills would help them read more. The TODAY host added other tips, such as keeping a book in hand, finding the right book format, and creating undisturbed reading time.

Carson Daly

When Jenna got to her favorite tip, which is joining book clubs, some of the hosts began making fun of the advice. Carson Daly joked to the audience that they should just “watch  the movie instead.” Everyone on the couch laughed at the joke except Jenna who felt her co-hosts weren’t taking her advice as seriously as she should.

Hoda, also laughed but gently swatted Daly with the papers in her hand for making the joke. But Bush went on and said that joining a book club was similar to when she and Savannah Guthrie worked out together. Guthrie offered a snide remark before Jenna shouted at them, “You guys are the worst!”

Jenna turned her attention to Carson, saying, “You know who I’m going to work on in 2024? That’s you! If I can change the most cynical.”

Jenna always has some advice for people who want to read more books in their life. The Hoda & Jenna host has her own book club on Instagram, readwithjenna, where she shares her love for reading, and now, advice with her followers.

“I love reading for so many reasons, it really is sort of my escape from everyday life. It’s how I calm down, it’s how I detach. It’s how I fall in love with other places I will never go to. It’s how I empathize with characters who are nothing like me. There’s nothing like falling in love with a book,” she said.

Jenna also gave her followers advice on how to keep on reading.

“Once you fall in love with a book … so give it about 75, 100 pages. Once you’re really into it, it’s not going to be hard to find time to read because you’re going to be obsessed. You’re going to want to stay up late. You’re going to want to read in the morning. By the way, there is nothing more luxurious than a Saturday morning with a cup of coffee, before your kids get up and read.”

Jenna advised her fellow readers that they can just quit if they don’t like the book. “… This is not you know Mr. Sand’s English class.

“If you don’t like it after 100 pages, move on to something else. Unless it’s something that you feel like you have to read, you don’t have to.”

Even though Jenna’s co-hosts didn’t appreciate her advice on reading more, her followers did.

One person said, “I love that advice, if you don’t love it, put it aside. I feel guilty if I don’t finish a book I buy but I will not follow your 100 page rule. There are too many wonderful books to be read. Why waste time on something you don’t enjoy!”

Another fan added, “Great advice and so true!”
