The View’s Sara Haines and Sunny Hostin’s Heated Political Debate Shocks Fans

Things got spicy between The View’s Sara Haines and Sunny Hostin Thursday as the talk show panel engaged in a spirited political debate. Panel moderator, Whoopi Goldberg, introduced the first Hot Topic of the day, and it wasn’t long before the two women were clashing over the issue.

The first subject for discussion was Congressman Kevin McCarthy’s ongoing struggle to win votes for the Speaker position in the GOP-controlled House of Representatives.

Whoopi, Joy Behar, and Alyssa Farah Griffin all weighed in on the subject before Sara jumped into the conversation.

The panelist said—“This is a ripe opportunity for, as Alyssa was saying, for Democrats to step in because we talked about it here. The popcorn, and how we were joking about the memes and enjoying the fact that the Republican Party’s kind of eating itself, which we saw coming with the divide.”

Sara added—“This is the time where I feel like if Democrats were knocking down those McCarthy supporters’ doors and saying, ‘You guys have the majority, you’re gonna win. You’re gonna have a republican in here. Let’s talk about who that is,’ because there’s such a difference between an Adam Kinzinger and a Jim Jordan, a Liz Cheney and -“

“But that’s what they’re so split about,” Joy pointed out.

Sara went on—“Well, come in now before they have consensus.”

Sunny took issue with Sara’s stance and tried to explain her position.

“Because if you could get Democrats to say, ‘we will vote for your Republican if it’s someone we can agree on,’” Sunny said.

Joy tried to back up her co-host and refute Sara’s position, but quieted down when Sunny reentered the discussion.

“The Democrats are very united, and I don’t think the Democrats are gonna do that,” Sunny said.

Sara wasn’t on board with a second opinion and it wasn’t long before the debate turned heated. The duo began speaking over each other before Sunny allowed Sara to continue her argument.

“This is what I’m saying,” she said. “The first vote is symbolic. Democrats come together, and you show you’re united. Awesome. Now, feed on the opportunity to come in and have a say on who this person is.”

“The Republicans should vote for Hakeem Jeffries,” Sunny interjected, inviting audience applause.

Fans of the show expressed their own opinions while sounding off about the testy panel discussion.

One person tweeted—“I’m sorry @sarahaines but you are speaking in ideals. This is not an ideal world. Which of the Republicans should the Democrats back? None of them have any interest in legislation.”

Another said—“Sara don’t know WTH she’s talking about.”

Other fans took Sara’s side of the tense debate.

A viewer wrote—“Sara is 100% correct. Sunny is taking the toxic female position of wanting to sit back and watch the drama. The country doesn’t have time for that.”

Another joked—“The topic is a mess, but Alyssa’s shoes… I love and I want.”
