Andy Cohen Brought Drugs Onto CNN NYE Set
Andy Cohen was bitter during the 2022 New Year’s Eve broadcast after CNN banned their hosts from drinking on live television during the end-of-year celebrations.
On January 1, Andy Cohen posted a video with Anderson Cooper where they were taking their kids to a local playground. He wrote in his caption, “That was a lot of fun! Happy New Year, you guys! I finally get my tequila in case you’re wondering at the end of the night. Anderson didn’t. I did.”
Andy and his co-host didn’t have any alcohol throughout the broadcast but found other ways to have fun on the last night of the year. Cohen, 54, defended his decision to drink at the end of the night because he did a great job hosting. “I drank for both of us and I earned it,” he said.
“So we should talk about the elephant in the room,” Cohen quipped Saturday in a clip shared on social media of CNN’s broadcast. “We can’t drink, alright! We can’t drink. But it’s fine. It’s totally cool.”
“I don’t normally drink, so it’s not a big deal for me,” Cooper chimed in, before asking Cohen if he was “going to be able to make it” through the night.
“That’s the question. We will see,” Cohen replied. “Do I have a pocket full of edibles? I do. Will I take them? I don’t think so. I don’t know, it’s a long night. This is a telethon with no disease, do you understand? We’re here all night passing time.”
Cooper and Cohen have been hosting the CNN New Year’s Eve show since 2017, but last year, Andy got into trouble after his drunken outburst. In his post, the Watch What Happens Live host insisted that he didn’t act any different because he was sober.
“By the way, I would like to say I don’t think the two of us acted really discernibly different much different than we would have if we had been drinking,” Andy said. Bravo’s head honcho said that he had a blast hosting the show with his pal during the January 4, 2022 episode of Sirius XM’s The Howard Stern Show. He said, “Listen, I will not be ashamed for having fun on New Year’s Eve. That’s why I’m there, that’s why they bring me there.”
During the December 31 broadcast the year before, Andy Cohen went on a drunken rant that affected the network’s decision to ban drinking. He spoke about the outgoing NYC mayor Bill de Blasio and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg and made fun of Ryan Seacrest’s event that was going on a few feet from them.
The producer said, “If you look behind me you’ll see Ryan Seacrest’s group of losers performing. I’m sorry, but if you’re watching ABC, you’re watching nothing,” Andy quipped.
Last year, Cohen said during his radio show, Andy Cohen Live, that the only thing he regretted that night was getting so drunk he came after Ryan Seacrest. He said, “The only thing that I regret saying, the only thing is that I slammed the ABC broadcast and I really like Ryan Seacrest and he’s a great guy and I really regret saying that and I was just stupid and drunk and feeling it.”
Ryan revealed that Andy ignored him during the recent CNN New Year’s Eve broadcast where they were not allowed to drink. During the January 3 episode of Live with Ryan and Kelly, he said, “It was funny because my big stage was right in front of Anderson and Andy. When I was not working I was trying to get their attention.”
He showed his co-host, Kelly Ripa, how he tried to get the producer to see him with a wave. “I thought maybe I was in the shot. I just wanted to wave and say hi. They have a great show, and Anderson, the best. He turns around and he says, ‘Have a good show,’ very nice Andy did not turn around.”
Kelly, however, called him out for saying that. “That’s not true. He said he was trying to get your attention.”
