Trailblazing Journalist Barbara Walters Dies Almost Exactly One Year After Iconic Actress Betty White

Trailblazing broadcaster, Barbara Walters, died on Friday at the age of 93, and it wasn’t long before people were comparing her passing to the death of another iconic woman, Betty White, who passed away on almost the exact same day, last year. 

Walters died on December 30, in her New York City home following years of privately battled health issues. The famous interviewer was last seen in public in July 2016, at the Paris Theatre for the New York premiere of ‘Cafe Society.’ 

Betty White passed away on December 31, 2021, only weeks before her 100th birthday. The beloved actress, who enjoyed a nine-decade-long Hollywood career, suffered a stroke and died in her sleep at her home in Los Angeles. 

Fans of the two women took to social media to mark the loss of two “beloved national treasures.”

One person tweeted—“2021 ended with the loss of Betty White. 2022 ends with the loss of Barbara Walters. Two years in a row we lost QUEENS at the end of year. Both Barbara and Betty will be forever loved. Incredible ladies”

Some upset people used social media to vent their frustration.  

One user said—“Didn’t 2021 take Betty White from us on 12/31/2021? Now 2022 just took Barbara Walters on 12/30/2022. This some b******t.”

Lots of social media users posted photos of the two women in heartfelt testimonials.  

One person wrote—“The end of 2021 was the death of Betty White. Now, the end of 2022 is Barbara Walters. Iconic women.” 

Another pointed out how both women broke barriers during their extraordinary careers. 

A fan noted—“Whoa, last year it was Betty White who left us right before the new year, And this year: Barbara Walters… Both icons & same initials…”

The View personality, Whoopi Goldberg, shared an update on the creator of the long-running show, only weeks ago. The moderator said as a beaming photo of Walters was shared with the audience—“To the one and only Barbara Walters, who had a birthday yesterday, we wanna say, 27 never looked so good!”

Walters did not make an appearance during the The View’s 25th-anniversary celebration earlier this year, raising concern among fans. The broadcast journalist’s health had reportedly deteriorated over the last decade. 

The famous TV personality served as a role model to countless women, and tributes have flooded social media since news broke of her death.

Oprah Winfrey shared a photo snapped with Walters on Instagram, writing—”Without Barbara Walters there wouldn’t have been me—nor any other woman you see on evening, morning, and daily news. She was indeed a Trailblazer.”

Robin Roberts tweeted—”Barbara Walters was a true trailblazer.”
