Chris Bassett Became Seriously Ill After Gizelle Bryant Accused Him of Cheating
Real Housewives of Potomac star Candiace Dillard says her husband, Chris Bassett, became “very ill” after Gizelle Bryant accused him of inappropriate behavior.
Candiace Dillard did an interview this week with Page Six to promote her latest project. The Real Housewives of Potomac star snatched herself a role as trophy wife Syleena Gibson on ALLBLK’s TV drama show, Hush. While promoting the new show, Candiace revealed that Chris became very ill after Gizelle Bryant accused him of making her uncomfortable (in a sexual harassment way), while they were backstage after the season six reunion.
“He was not well. As Dorinda [Medley] would say, “Not well, bitch.” She continued, “He was not well for quite a while. It was a mind eff for him to have this picture painted of him because that’s what Gizelle did.” The singer went on to say that Gizelle Bryant intentionally created a narrative about Chris that was “completely false, damaging and hurtful.”
Candiace Dillard, 35, added that despite Bryant’s best efforts to go after Candiace’s husband, many viewers didn’t agree with her. “We were blown away at the number of messages and comments of people that were calling BS and saying that they didn’t believe it. But there’s always that 0.5 percent that says, “Oh, he did it,” or whatever they say.”
The ‘Drive Back’ singer said Chris is feeling better now but the damage is done. “There are headlines that will live on the internet that insinuate that my husband is a predator, and you can’t undo that. And that’s why it’s so damaging for people to be able to make things up. It’s hurtful, and he was very hurt by it,” Candiace explained.
Gizelle Bryant, 52, was not the only housewife to come after Chris this season. Ashley Darby also accused Candiace’s husband of being inappropriate with her when he slid into her DMs. Candiace says that her co-star’s decision to make an issue of the minor incidents is just “bad acting” in an effort to remain relevant.
She continued, “’Potomac Housewives’ on Bravo TV is supposed to be our real lives. So if you don’t have a real-life situation to offer, find a seat or the unemployment line. That’s where you should go.” Dillard added that Ashley, 34, and Gizelle’s talents could be useful elsewhere. “If you wanted to do scripted TV, Gizelle and Ashley, I’m sure that there are auditions for extra roles on ‘Hush’ for Season 2.”
While talking about her future on The Real Housewives of Potomac, Candiace said that she thought of quitting, especially after her music career took off. “This is a conversation that we have a lot in my house. So when I came on to this platform, my goal was to use this platform to get to where I am.”
In a recent episode, Candiace took viewers behind the scenes of her music video for her single, “Insecure” featuring rapper Trina. In 2022, Dillard completed a successful East Coast tour and a live performance at BravoCon. “It’s working … For as long as I am having fun on ‘Housewives’ — which very much was tested in Season 7 — I will be here,” she added.
When Candiace and Chris joined The Real Housewives of Potomac in 2018, they considered Gizelle a friend, but not anymore. The Reasonably Shady host told the outlet that she and Candiace were in a “good place,” after filming wrapped this summer but things didn’t end up well after they appeared on The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip Season 3.
“We were in a good place when we finished ‘Potomac’ — so I thought. And currently today, we’re not in a good place at all,” Gizelle shared. The mother of three told Page Six that she didn’t expect her conversation with Candiace would destroy their friendship. “I thought it wasn’t going to affect my friendship with her in any way because it was kind of just, like, girlfriend-to-girlfriend. He was doing the most. I didn’t like it. This is what happened. Talk to your husband.”
The Real Housewives of Potomac airs Sunday nights, at 8:00 pm ET, on TLC.
