Jen Shah’s Scams Caused Elderly Victim To Suffer Multiple Heart Attacks … She Demands HARSH Prison Sentence
One of the victims scammed by Jen Shah is demanding the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star serve the maximum sentence and return the money she stole.
Jen Shah, 49, is facing 14 years for her role in a telemarketing scheme that targeted the elderly. She pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and has agreed to cough up $6.5 million. Jen is hoping the judge will be lenient and give her a maximum of three years in prison.
However, prosecutors are asking the judge that Jen serve at least 10 years. In their plea, prosecutors included letters from the victims of the reality star’s scam, who demanded the judge consider all the pain Jen caused to innocent people just so that “she could have fun and live in luxury.”
In an emotional letter obtained by Radar Online, a 60-year-old woman claims that she lost tens of thousands of dollars after she signed up for Jen’s scheme.
“Not only has her actions caused financial stress for me, I have suffered emotional and physical stress due to her actions as well. My overall health is forever changed,” the woman wrote.
She explained that Jen and her affiliates offered programs to help people start their own businesses and launch their websites. The woman claims she shelled out thousands to Jen in an effort to make more money, as promised. But when the 60-year-old hit $35k in debt with no profits to show for it, that’s when things took a turn. She said that things got so bad for her financially, it made her sick, literally.
“Sleeping at night became increasingly difficult because I was constantly worried about my finances. I only had a small pension. It was not enough to pay my mortgage, utilities, household expenses, monthly credit card payments across four different accounts. I grew dizzy at times, started sweating more than usual, and I became increasingly weaker. I worried all the time,” she said.
In 2018, the woman suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital where doctors told her the cause was due to extreme stress. She was then prescribed different medications and began taking them. She attempted to resume working with Jen’s company but learned that she was completely locked out of her own website and all of her work was missing.
In July 2018, she realized that she had been scammed and tried to get her money back, but she suffered another heart attack the next month. “Just about every day, I live with an uneasy feeling that if I experience any other stressful situations I will have another heart attack,” she expressed.
“I believe that I should receive full restitution from Jennifer Shah to cover the entire amount that I invested and lost as a result of her fraudulent activities, which was $35,290. Additionally, I should receive twice the above amount in restitution for my medical expenses and pain and suffering.”
The woman continued, “Now only should Jennifer pay restitution, she should be given the maximum prison sentence allowed by law.”
More victims of Jen are pleading with the judge to be harsh when sentencing the RHOSLC star on January 6.
A letter from a 75-year-old retiree referred to herself as one of the seniors “who were scammed by Ms. Jennifer Shah and her cohorts by intentionally selling misleading information for an exorbitant fee.” The woman said that she spent, “$40,000 trying to do good for my family.
Each person scammed has their own story with a dream of a better retirement and life. That was taken away when they were cohersed [sic] to give their money for false promises.”
She also mentioned that Jen Shah affected many elderly people’s quality of life in retirement by stealing their money.
“Please consider this when passing judgment on Mrs. Jennifer Shah. Her restitution and time served should put her into the same or similar hardship as her victims. It was her choice to commit the crime for fame, drinks, fun and luxury.” She wrote.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City airs Wednesdays, at 9 p.m. ET, on Bravo.
