Disgraced Hillsong Pastor Carl Lentz’s Dark Obsessions Exposed In Documentary
Members of Hillsong Church are speaking out about former pastor Carl Lentz’s obsession with sex and women.
In a new TLC documentary titled, Hillsong: A Megachurch Exposed, some of the former churchgoers spoke about the strict rules Carl Lentz put in place for women and those in relationships.
As per the former church member, Carl demanded that those in relationships don’t say “I love you” until they propose. He also demanded that those in relationships not kiss until they have dated for a whole year. Other demands set by Carl for his congregation included how women should dress when they came to church.
Another former church member revealed that Carl talked a lot about sex while he was preaching his sermons. “Sex came up a lot in Carl’s preaching … If he was so concerned with these things, there must be an underlying root,” the ex-church member said. Another anonymous church member added, “He would hammer in our heads ‘do not have sex before marriage.’ All I could think was, ‘man, this guy probably had a lot of sex before marriage.’”
Carl was exposed earlier this year in a Discovery+ documentary for cheating on his wife with his mistress, Ranin Karim. This news came as a shock to many, especially his congregation since he was very strict with them when it came to having premarital sex.
In the documentary, released on Wednesday, former Hillsong attendee, Jaclyn Hayes, said that Carl made her break up with her boyfriend after they confessed to sleeping together.
“It was me and my boyfriend. Carl Lentz. No female was present. Carl led the discussion. So we shared that we had slept together. We were very forthcoming about our sin. It was literally one time,” she noted.
Jaclyn went on to say that Carl asked if they had used a condom and she said “yes,” but his response was, “well then, it was premeditated.” The couple received punishment for their actions. “It went from listening to then you are off the worship team and choir for six months. He was off his team.” Not only did they lose their positions at the church, but they were also told, “We do not think you guys should date, text, call.”
She continued, “We walked out of that service and we were broken up. We were conditioned. When you go to this church and it’s this prosperity, success – this is what we’re chasing.”
Carl was fired from the church in November 2020 over “moral failures.”
