Lee suffered a physical injury that affected his nerves, which makes one-half of his body go numb all at once. Rosbach also revealed that the loss of his son is another reason why he has decided to take a step back from the Bravo reality show. In July 2019, he lost his son, Joshua, to an overdose after battling addiction for years.

The Below Deck star had spoken about his grief to The New York Times and said he gets triggered by the smallest things.

“Some days are better than others. Other days I’m just a f**king train wreck. I’ll be sitting at a stoplight, something will trigger it and I just come apart like a cheap suit.”

Captain Lee has been spotted exercising in the gym despite his health issues. The “Stud of the Sea” was seen lifting 175lbs on a chest press after his departure announcement aired. Sources told TMZ the announcement was shot in February so since then he has been spotted out and about looking better.

While giving a health update to fans during the December 1 episode of Watch What Happens Live, Captain Lee said he was doing so much better.

“It was a tough spot, rough patches there but since I’ve been back, [I’m] hitting the gym every day [and] back on track.”

While on the Watch What Happens Live After Show, he was asked about his favorite season. “I think season one was my favorite cuz everything was so new and so fresh and we actually really didn’t know what we were doing,” he said.

He also explained that he only knew Below Deck was a hit after three seasons aired because that was when his producer came to him to sign a contract.

“He said, ‘You realize we don’t have you on a contract yet.’ And I said, ‘That’s not my problem. That’s not my fault.’ And he said, ‘Well, we’re not leaving this room till we do.’ And he came walking in with a bottle of Maker’s Mark, two glasses, no ice, and said, ‘We’re gonna be here for a few hours.”
