Pastor Jamal Bryant Using Marijuana To Lure Black Men To His Church
Jamal Bryant wants to start growing marijuana in an effort to drive more black men to his church in Atlanta.
The ex-husband of Real Housewives of Potomac star Gizelle Bryant made the shocking claim during an appearance on the Cool Soror podcast with Rashan Ali.
The lead pastor at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, explained how he wants to launch a cannabis business on the church’s grounds to teach African-American men entrepreneurship and persuade them to attend church service.
“I’m looking for people that smell like weed,” Bryant declared. “New Birth is the largest land-owning Black church in America. My position to my deacons is ‘why are we not raising cannabis?’”
The pastor’s comments shocked the podcast host, but the pastor continued to explain his plan.
“I’ll be able to bring in Black males. They’re able to do it legally. I’m teaching them farming. I’m helping them to enhance the ecosystem. This is the kind of conversation. So if the guy, Black boy, in Bankhead said ‘they growing weed at the church? Where do I join?’ I don’t need no pamphlet for him,” Jamal Bryant said on the podcast.

The concept would face major obstacles coming to fruition in Georgia, where marijuana laws are tougher than in most states, per Georgia’s Department of Health.
Georgia’s law is much more limited than some other states’ medical marijuana laws. For example, it does not legalize the sale or possession of marijuana in leaf form, and it does not authorize the production or sale of food products infused with low-THC oil or the ingestion of low-THC oil through vapor. It does not authorize physicians to prescribe marijuana for medical use. It is intended solely to protect qualified persons from criminal prosecution for possessing low-THC oil for medicinal purposes.
Earlier this year, Jamal Bryant was been slapped with a federal lien for not paying $66,568.44 in taxes.
The court documents reveal that the IRS filed a lien on January 11, 2022. The address on the document is linked to the Atlanta address that Jamal used to register New Birth Movement LLC, in May 2021.
Back in March 2021, the pastor was slammed with a federal tax lien by the IRS. Court documents revealed Jamal Bryant had racked up the debt over several years. Jamal is on the hook for money owed for the years 2008-2011, 2012, 2014-2016, and 2018. The figures ranged from $336.55 recorded in 2018 to $302,044.14 recorded for the year 2008. The multiple bills added up to a whopping $738,524.24.
The government could begin seizing Jamal’s assets if he doesn’t produce the funds in a timely manner.
