Todd and Julie Chrisley Heartbroken About Chloe’s Mother Fighting For Custody
Todd and Julie Chrisley have responded to Chloe’s biological mother, Angela Johnson, who claims to get her daughter back home.
Chrisley Knows Best stars have clarified their position as Chloe’s legal parents after Johnson told TMZ she was pushed out of her daughter’s life. She told the news outlet that despite not filing any papers, she intends to go to court to get Chloe.
“I want her home. She deserves to be home. I’m her biological mom. I didn’t walk away from her. I was pushed out of her life.” Angela shares Chloe from a previous marriage with Todd’s first son, Kyle Chrisley. However, she gave up her parental rights to the couple according to the family’s attorney, Jessica Doyle, who helped with the adoption.
In a statement sent to PEOPLE on Wednesday, the couple said that they “are saddened by the unfortunate and misleading narrative currently being portrayed in the media regarding Chloe.” Jessica Doyle also told the news outlet that Angela’s public statements were not correct nor valid.
“I handled the formal adoption of Chloe by Todd and Julie Chrisley. Angela Johnson’s parental rights were terminated when she voluntarily surrendered her parental rights to Todd and Julie Chrisley on March 24, 2017.” Doyle also said that Johnson hasn’t had any contact with her child since 2015.
The Chrisleys’ attorney insisted that Todd and Julie don’t just have custody over Chloe, but they are also her legal parents. Todd was recently sentenced to 12 years in prison and 16 months probation while Julie was handed 7 years in prison and 16 months probation. Angela told TMZ that since the Chrisleys moved from Atlanta to Tennessee she has been trying to get them to court.
“In that timeframe that Chloe’s been gone, I was talking to attorneys and we were trying to figure out which way to go about getting Chloe back home. But at the same time, it was kind of like we were at a standstill because we were trying to figure out where we would actually end up in court.”
Their daughter, Savannah Chrisley, said during her podcast that she might get custody over her siblings Chloe and Grayson after her parents go to prison.
“I think that’s the hardest part is me trying to navigate how to teach two children who aren’t fully developed yet, that. And how to navigate the circumstances. That’s a really difficult thing. I have to be a positive role model for Chloe and Grayson.” She continued, “No matter how hard it gets, I have to show up.”
