‘Sister Wives’ Janelle Brown Advised Christine Not To Dump Kody Until She Was Financially Secure
Sister Wives star Christine Brown revealed Janelle Brown advised her in Vegas, not leave Kody Brown until she was financially secure and able to afford life on her own.
“I asked when we were in Vegas, and I was just done in Vegas. I remember asking her, I’m like, ‘I need to leave. I need to leave. I don’t even want to be married to Kody anymore. I can’t,'” Christine, 50, said during an appearance on the Reality Life podcast. “And she looked at me and she goes, ‘Until you can support yourself financially by yourself, you are not going to leave.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, God. All right then.'”
Since Christine and Kody’s split, fans have been over the moon to see Christine and Janelle have remained close friends, and Janelle even spent her summer traveling with Christine.
The former sister wives share a genuine friendship. They support each other through many challenges faced in a plural marriage. Christine praised “amazing,” Janelle for being a true friend, who stood by her drama-filled departure from the Brown family.
“Janelle’s that person where she’ll listen and listen to listen and be like, ‘Everything’s fine. He’s a great guy,'” she said. “But when it comes right down to it, she’ll just be like, ‘Boom, chakalaka.’ What every woman needs is a friend that is just supportive and kind of good. But when you need to have a different perspective, they don’t mind just giving it to you — and Janelle’s lovely that way.”
“She’s lovely. She’s balanced to me, where we balance each other well,” Christine added.
On Nov. 2, 2021, Christine took to Instagram to announce her separation from Kody.
“After more than 25 years together, Kody and I have grown apart and I have made the difficult decision to leave. We will continue to be a strong presence in each other’s lives as we parent our beautiful children and support our wonderful family,” she wrote.
In response, Kody shared his own statement on Instagram, writing, “Christine’s decision to leave comes with a great deal of sadness. We enjoyed many years together and I have a large amount of respect and admiration for her. Although we are moving forward on different paths, we will always remain committed parents.”
Kody Brown had a hard time wrapping his head around Christine’s decision to leave the family.
“There is such a strike to all my feelings and all the work that I’ve done for our family to come here to sort of have this family gathering and say goodbye that is way off course for me. Way off the charts,” he said during the episode. “It’s not even right. It feels so demeaning.” He said in a talking head confessional in Season 17.
In September 2021, Christine relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah, and still lives there with daughter Truely, 12. The exes are also parents to son Paedon, 24, and daughters Aspyn, 27, Mykelti, 26, Gwendlyn, 20, and Ysabel, 19.
Christine revealed that she was ending the 25-year spiritual marriage during last season’s finale.
“The intimate part of our marriage is over,” she said. “And to be honest, I’m not okay with that. I’m not okay with staying in a marriage where there’s no intimacy. That’s not a real marriage. I’m not interested in a half marriage or a partial marriage or whatever we have.”
Despite Janelle’s wise financial advise given to Christine, during the November 13 episode of season 17, she admitted shocking news about the state of her own finances.
Janelle explained that she’s not in a position to dump Kody because she has no assets in her name, additionally Kody prioritizes Robyn’s needs over his other wives.
“I have gotten myself into a very stupid position as far as an independent woman,” Janelle said during the Sunday, November 13 episode. “If I were to leave, or want to leave right now, I would have no estate. I have nothing to leave to my kids. My hands are completely tied.” Janelle explained in a talking head confessional in season 17.
She added, “Cause everything I have asset-wise has everybody else’s name on it too.”
Janelle continued, “He was mad when I went from my first rental to my second rental, even though the second rental was much bigger, he was mad because it wasn’t as nice. But you know what, he has a house that he lives in up on the hill with Robyn and it’s really nice, and I have NOTHING, so I’m trying hard to build myself something here.”
