Todd Chrisley Sentenced To 12 Years In Prison For Tax Evasion, Julie Chrisley Got 7 Years!
Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley were sentenced on Monday, months after they were found guilty in a tax evasion case.
A federal judge sentenced Todd Chrisley to 12 years in prison plus 16 months probation. His wife, Julie, was sentenced to 7 years in prison, plus 16 months probation.
All About The Tea has been reporting on the Chrisley’s legal troubles for years.
The Chrisley Knows Best stars were found guilty by a federal jury in June on charges of criminal bank fraud and tax evasion. Prosecutors said the Chrisleys took out $30 million in fraudulent bank loans to fund their lavish lifestyle and extravagant spending even before they become reality television stars.
They used a film production company they controlled to hide income to keep the IRS from collecting unpaid taxes owed by Todd Chrisley, prosecutors said.
Both Chrisleys were charged with conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States and tax fraud. Julie Chrisley was also charged with wire fraud and obstruction of justice.
The Chrisleys maintained they did nothing wrong and someone else had control of their finances.
All About The Tea obtained a 71-page sentencing memorandum, which included a suggestion of how much time they should serve.
Eleanor Ross, a district judge in Atlanta, handed down the stern sentences the reality couple. Prosecutors apparently fought for Todd to receive up to 22 years and for Julie to receive up to 13. Their own lawyers believed the sentences were too lengthy and attempted to get Todd 9 years and no hard time for Julie at all.
“The seriousness of the Chrisleys’ crimes cannot be understated. After they defrauded community banks out of tens of millions of dollars, they hid millions of dollars from the IRS, all while going on television to boast about how much they spend on designer clothes,” prosecutors wrote in the document. “And when they learned that they were under investigation for those crimes, they involved their own family members and friends to obstruct justice.”
The Chrisleys share three children and have been married since 1996. The family rose to fame on the reality TV show Chrisley Knows Best.
Todd and Julie’s daughter, Savannah Chrisley, recently showed support for her parents during an appearance on “Entertainment Tonight.”
“They’re pushing through. We’re at a place where we put our faith in God. We definitely don’t put our faith in the system,” Savannah told the outlet.
She added: “I’ve never seen two people, my parents, be so steadfast in their faith and in prayer… just literally on their knees every morning praying. It’s just so admirable, and that’s kinda just my focus. Just watching them and still learning… growing from them in times like this, and just kinda staying strong through it all… knowing that, in the end, the truth will prevail. And it may get harder before it gets easier, but we have faith.”
