While on the Talking it Out with Bachelor Nation podcast, Rodney Andrews opened up about the criticism he received from fans for his relationship with Lace Morris and Eliza Isichei.

Rodney joined the Bachelor In Paradise cast hoping that he will fall in love and have a romantic fairytale ending. However, he ended up leaving heartbroken after Eliza chose to dump him and pursue her relationship with Justin Glaze. Rodney was asked on the show by hosts Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo what he thinks of the backlash he received for breaking up with Lace the same way Eliza broke up with him.

Rodney replied, “At the end of the day, as much love as I’m going to get, I will take the same amount of criticism as well. At the time down there on the beach, my relationship with Lace didn’t compare to what I had with Eliza. It was a completely different level.”

Andrews also explained that he never knew of Lace before joining Bachelor In Paradise, but he did know of Eliza. “Lace is an amazing person and it was nice getting to know her,” he began. “She was a pleasant surprise. Eliza was by far on the top of my list of people I wanted to see. I hoped at some point she would be there.” Rodney also talked about how he and his friend, Andrew Spender, tried following their hearts but ended up getting hurt. “I want to be honest with you guys here and now about how it was amazing getting to know Lace, but with Eliza, I knew I would fight for her and give her my all.” When the show’s hosts asked if he let Lace know about his strong feelings towards Eliza, he said he did the day of split week.

Rodney said that it was 20 minutes before Jesse Palmer called them to the side and he had no idea what would happen next. “But I did make sure that I had a conversation with Lace. It did seem like we were getting closer, which was nice, but I did want to be honest with her.” He continued, “I said, ‘If Eliza walks down, I do want to take a date with her because she’s the number one on my list.’ I couldn’t believe the timing. Everything happens for a reason. I am so glad that Lace remembered that and we talked about it at the reunion. She did remember that conversation and knew that I let her know about wanting to meet Eliza.”
