Casey Anthony Places Blame for Daughter Caylee’s Death on Father George Anthony
Casey Anthony is blaming her father, George Anthony, for the death of her daughter. The 36-year-old is speaking out in a new Peacock documentary called Casey Anthony: Where The Truth Lies, which will begin streaming on November 29. Anthony’s first on-camera interview will be featured in the three-part series.
Anthony made worldwide headlines in 2008, after the mysterious disappearance of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. The toddler’s remains were found in a wooded area near the family home, six months later, and Anthony was charged with the murder. Anthony’s legal team claimed that Caylee drowned in the family pool during the 2011 trial. Anthony was acquitted of murder charges on July 5, 2011, but served prison time, after being convicted of four counts of providing false information to authorities.
Anthony elaborated on claims that she was sexually abused by both her father, George, and her brother, Lee, during her interview. Both men denied her allegations in court, and have never been charged. Anthony claimed that her father staged Caylee’s drowning in an effort to cover up that he may have been abusing his granddaughter.
“I wasn’t feeling that great, and I wanted to lay down,” Anthony said about June 16, 2008, the last day she saw Caylee. ”I had her lay in bed with me.
“I was awoken by [my father] shaking me and asking me where Caylee was,” she continued. “That didn’t make sense. She would never even leave my room without telling me. I immediately started looking around the house. I go outside and I’m looking to see where she could be.”
Anthony said that she then saw her daughter in George Anthony’s arms.
“He was standing there with her,” she says. “She was soaking wet. He handed her to me. Said it was my fault. That I caused it. But he didn’t rush to call 911 and he wasn’t trying to resuscitate her. I collapsed with her in my arms. She was heavy, and she was cold.”
“He takes her from me and he immediately softens his tone and says ‘It’s going to be ok.’ I wanted to believe him. He took her from me and he went away.”
Anthony said that she didn’t tell anyone what had occurred when she went to stay with her then-boyfriend, Tony Lazzaro. She explained that she did not believe that her daughter was dead.
“During the 31 days, I genuinely believed that Caylee was still alive,” she said. “My father kept telling me she was ok. I had to keep following his instructions. He told me what to do. I tried to act as normal as I could.”
Anthony clarified that she did not believe that Caylee drowned in the above-ground pool.
“There was no ladder…no way for her to shimmy up,” she noted. “There’s no way to explain that, unless [George] put her in the pool to cover up what he did.”
Anthony dropped a bomb when she shared a jaw-dropping accusation against her father.
“He’d put a pillow over my face and smother me to knock me out,” she claimed. “That happened several times. I’m sure there were times where I was incapacitated as a child where my body was limp and lifeless.”
She admitted that she still worries that her father abused her daughter.
“That’s what I think about,” Anthony said. “I wish every day I had said something to someone about something. Maybe then things would be different.”
