Kody Brown’s Mother Predicted Her Son’s Marital Demise

A resurfaced Sister Wives clip reveals that Kody Brown’s mother may have predicted that her son’s marriages would eventually crash and burn. Fans have been watching Kody grapple with his breakup from third wife, Christine, amid rumors that the same has since occurred with his second wife, Janelle.

The old footage featured Kody’s mother, Genielle, offering her son advice on how to manage his four separate marriages. Kody was romantically involved with all four wives at the time, including his first wife, Meri, and his fourth and current legal wife, Robyn. 

Genielle, who appeared on the TLC show during Season 6, advised her son to treat all of his wives equally, in order to keep family peace and harmony.  She suggested that he only give gifts in groups of four, so as to not show favor to any particular wife. 

“I can’t buy something for my wife worried in my head about what another wife will think,” Kody responded, in the footage. 

He added that he believed the strategy to be disrespectful and unfair to the specific wife on the receiving end of his affection. 

Genielle offered insight on Kody as a child and spoke about the future TLC star’s disobedient nature. 

“As a child, Kody was a handful,” she shared. “One time he was being disobedient when the furnace was on and he was standing right on top of the furnace and he ended up with his hands on the furnace. Kody has not changed a whole lot since then.” 

Kody’s parents, William and Genielle Brown, were initially in a monogamous relationship. The couple shifted to a polygamist lifestyle while Kody was a teenager. William tied the spiritual knot with two additional women, Bobbie and Sheryl Brown, undoubtedly influencing Kody’s decision to pursue the same lifestyle.

Genielle’s advice proved to be wise, as Christine pointed to Kody’s favored relationship with Robyn as a dynamic that led to her decision to leave the family. 

Christine explained that the decision was made for the sake of her children, confirming during a recent episode that Kody’s favoritism toward Robyn was a deal breaker. 

“I know without a doubt I have tried for years to make this work,” she said in a personal interview. “I have a clear conscience knowing that I gave it my best. If people want to look at me and think otherwise, OK — I can’t do anything about that. Being a mom is my most important thing, but I couldn’t with a clear conscience stay married to someone who had favorites and made it very known and someone who is breaking my kids’ hearts. I need to stand with my them instead, and I wanted to do it for them.”

Kody argued that it was Christine’s unwillingness to get along with others that ultimately wrecked the family. He singled out Robyn during a recently aired family showdown, blasting Christine for mistreating her sister wives from the start.

“[Christine] treated you like dirt from the very beginning,” Kody told Robyn. “That’s the relationship you have with her. That’s the reason I’m angry.”
