Kody Brown Blames Christine For Shattering The Image of Plural Marriage
Kody Brown admits that Christine Brown’s departure blew the narrative his family had worked to promote, on the upcoming episode of Sister Wives.
In a preview clip from Sunday’s episode, Kody and Christine, who announced their split in November 2021, weigh in on how the public might respond to their breakup bombshell.
“We’ve been 12 years, 11 years public trying to convince the world that we have something legitimate,” Kody tells his ex, in the sneak peek.
Kody shares his concern that the couple’s spiritual divorce will “delegitimize” their original goal, which was to portray polygamy in a positive light.
“We’ve worked so hard begging the public to accept our marriage, our family. And in a moment, (Christine) decides we’re divorced. And it feels like it delegitimizes everything I’ve worked for, for so long,” Kody says in a confessional spot.
Christine shares her own thoughts in a personal interview.
“When I chose to leave Kody, I knew I would be open publicly about it and this was a decision that I was making that other people would know and it wasn’t a private decision,” the mom of six explains. “One of the things that I was concerned about was would I be considered a fraud? Would I be considered a liar?”
Christine confirms that she has no regrets because her conscience is clear.
“I know without a doubt I have tried for years to make this work. I have a clean conscience knowing that I gave it my best,” she says. “If people want to look at me and think otherwise, OK. I can’t do anything about that.”
The TLC star adds that her focus rests on her children, not on how the public views her marriage or subsequent split.
“Being a mom is my most important thing,” she declares. “I couldn’t with a clear conscience stay married to someone who had favorites and made it very known and someone who was breaking my kids’ hearts.”
“I needed to stand with them instead and I wanted to do it for them,” she adds, before becoming emotional.
Christine has shared openly about her children’s strained relationships with their father, during the current season of Sister Wives. Kody and Christine’s daughter, Ysabel, 19, spoke for herself during a recent episode.
Christine shared that her daughter became upset when she learned that her father had crossed state lines to officiate a Texas wedding, after rejecting the chance to be with her during her scoliosis surgery.
The teen, who called the father/daughter relationship “fine,” confirmed that she shared a closer bond with her mother, as she prepared to move east to attend college.
Ysabel said in a confessional interview—“I’m gonna miss my mom more than I’m gonna miss him, I think- because I don’t actually think we’re close at all. But I mean, he’s still my dad.”
Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 pm ET on TLC.
