Details of Kody Brown’s Problematic Job With Best Friend Brian Coalwell
TLC recently featured Kody Brown traveling with pal, Brian Coalwell, shortly after the Sister Wives star officiated his wedding, sparking fan curiosity about the pair’s professional relationship.
“Brian and I have been friends for 25 years,” Kody said during the episode. “We’ve been business partners for maybe seven years. We’re just returning now from a show in Reno, Nevada, a sportsmen show, where we had some business.”
Starcasm reports that Kody’s referenced “sportsmen show” is simply another term for a gun show.
A Facebook user posted several photos of the TLC star manning his booth at a 2021 Tulsa gun show, on the platform. One of the photos, which made the rounds on Reddit, showed Brian holding a firearm.
The caption read—“Saw this on FB, just confirming the rumors he sells guns from TLCsisterwives”
Kody mentioned that Brian had recently tied the knot in the aired scene, and records confirmed that his friend got married in June 2021. The timeframe seemingly points to the duo attending the Crossroads of the West Gun Show, which took place at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, in late July of 2021.
The outlet reports that Kody and Brian share a long business relationship, including a partnership in an LLC called US Tactical, which was formed in Utah in April 2022. Kody, Brian, and another friend, who resides in Utah, are the listed “members” of the business. The company is categorized as “Sporting Goods, Hobby, and Musical Instrument Stores” under Products/Services.
Court docs obtained by The Ashley reveal that Brian has a tainted legal past. In 2001, he was federally charged with aiding and abetting, in connection to a group of people involved in illegally selling firearms at gun shows. Brian testified against the ringleader of the group, who landed behind bars. Brian served two years of probation but dodged a felony conviction with his testimony.
Some fans believe that TLC’s attention to the friendship points to the possibility that Kody plans to reveal what he does for a living, on the show. Viewers have been asking that question for years, and some believe that Kody is ready to publicly own that he brings in income as a firearms dealer.
Earlier this year, Paedon Brown, Kody’s son with ex, Christine, revealed one way his father brought in income before the family began filming Sister Wives.
“Dad was a sign salesman for many, many years,” Paedon shared in March, during an appearance on the “Surviving Sister Wives” podcast.
Paedon referred to a sign that read “Fajita Cantina,” which adorned the family’s shed when the show was filmed in Utah.
“He sold them a sign that fed us for many years,” he said. “He made a lot of money off of that sell and they gave him the old sign…several big sign sells fed the family for a long time.”
The 23-year-old did not respond when asked to confirm that his father sold guns.
Sister Wives airs on Sundays at 10 pm ET on TLC.
