David Foster Sees Nothing Wrong With Fathering A 6th Child In His 70s!

David Foster is opening up about how it feels like to be a father in his 70s! 

David, 72, shares a 20-month-old son, Rennie, with his wife, Katherine McPhee, 38. The music producer told People that he is loving every single day of fatherhood and hasn’t regretted anything. During the joint interview, Foster said, “It’s the standard thing of like, ‘Oh, well, you were so young when you had your children, and you were working day and night, you never saw them.’ And there is some truth to that, sadly, for my [older] kids. I was just working a lot. Even though I’m working a lot now, I’ll cancel anything just to hang with him. It’s just different.” David and McPhee addressed their 34-year-old age gap saying they know they’re an unconventional couple but what they have just works. 

Foster also referenced noticing Celine Dion and her late husband, Rene Angelil’s huge age difference. “I think we’re over that hump now with five years of being together, and hopefully people just start looking like we belong together because we feel like we do.” McPhee, who is a first-time mom added, “Even if they don’t, we don’t care. We just love our history, how we met, and where we are now. Sometimes we look at each other like, ‘This is so wild that we’re together.’” The couple first met in 2006 when McPhee was a contestant on American Idol and Foster was a mentor on the show. David and Katherine made their first red carpet debut as a couple at the Met Gala in 2018. 

In July of the same year, David proposed to the singer while they were vacationing on the Italian island of Capri. This is the music producer’s fifth marriage as he was previously wed to B.J. Cook, Rebecca Dyer, Linda Thompson, and RHOBH alum, Yolanda Hadid. His last marriage with Hadid ended in 2016 after they spent four years together.

He told People in 2017, “It’s quite obvious by my track record that I love being married, so I wouldn’t say no to being married again. I like the concept, I’m just not that good at it.” This is also not McPhee’s first marriage; the singer was married to Nick Cokas but they split up in 2016 after it was revealed she had had an affair with Michael Morris in 2013.
