What Did Mauricio Do?

During season 12, Kyle Richards and her husband Mauricio Umansky was filmed laughing over Erika Jayne berating the 14-year-old son of Garcelle Beauvais.

Mauricio’s Problematic Behavior

Kyle Richards and Erika Jayne were both slammed by viewers after the episode aired, revealing Erika drunkenly lashing out at Garcelle’s 14-year-old son, Jax. Erika repeatedly ordered the teen to “get the f**k out,” during a scene filmed at Garcelle’s birthday party.

Garcelle Reacts

Garcelle scolded Erika Jayne at the time but then later discovered that Kyle, Mauricio Umansky, Dorit Kemsley, and her husband, Paul “PK” Kemsley, had been filmed cackling over Erika’s nasty antics. A viewer shared the clip on Twitter, tagging Garcelle.

“Did you miss when Erika said to Garcelle’s son, the 14-year-old, to ‘go f*** off’?” Kyle asked, laughing.

She added, “I mean, it’s not funny but it is funny.”

Damage Control

Kyle Richards responded after being slammed by fans on social media.

“I was laughing about a friend’s drunken, ridiculous behavior,” Kyle wrote, in an Instagram comment section. “NOT about disrespecting someone’s child. I think you know me better than that by now. I wasn’t even there to see this and only heard about Erika and what she had said later.”

Her explanation did little to thwart the wave of negative comments flooding various platforms. Kyle addressed the matter further in an interview with Metro UK, in what appeared to be a desperate attempt to make amends with viewers, ahead of Wednesday’s episode.

Kyle isn’t the only one feeling the heat after the controversial episode. Fans did not appreciate Mauricio’s response and many took to Reddit to call for a blackout on his new Netflix show.

“Definitely won’t be watching,” one fan wrote.

“What are they going to do? Bully people, push and shove them into buying homes,” another asked.

One user pointed out, “Looks like people in the comments are ready to boycott and cancel.”

Another wrote, “Netflix needs to cancel them. They whole family needs to be cancelled. There is no place for maga supporters who laugh at black children being verbally assaulted on national tv and calling it authentic and saying ‘I loved that she did that.’”

The Aftermath

Kyle took to her Instagram Stories on July 5, to further plead her case.

Kyle’s comments, as captured by fan account, “Queens of Bravo,” read — “Now onto the clip where Mauricio, Pk, Dorit & I are discussing Erika’s behavior at Garcelle’s party. I had not seen what Erika said to Jax in person but was told about it the following day along with some funny moments as well. When I said it’s not funny, but it’s funny, I means Erika being drunk was funny, but what she said to Jax was not. I hope you know me well enough by now to know I certainly do not condone speaking to children like that.”

“We are all parents and certainly wouldn’t want anyone speaking to any of our children like that. Until Mexico we had never seen Erika drink like that. So this was new behavior we were seeing. I think while focusing on that the more important issue was being minimized,” Kyle added, noting that she felt “absolutely terrible” after watching the footage.

Mauricio Umansky has not addressed his filmed comments or issued an apology to the minor child involved.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is currently on hiatus.
