’90 Day Fiancé’ Couple Kim and Usman’s Relationship Implodes After Kim Refuses to be Second Wife!

Kimberly Menzies and Usman “Sojaboy” Umar’s unconventional romance hit the skids during Sunday’s episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? 

TLC followed Kim, 52, to Sokoto, Nigeria, where she hoped to receive the blessing of her 33-year-old fiancé’s mother, allowing them to move forward with their marriage.    

The meeting did not go well, even after Kim gifted the clan with a cow. 

“It is going way worse than I ever thought it was going to go,” Kim said. “The cow didn’t even help me. They think I’m being disrespectful and I’m trying to bribe them.”

The show featured the couple choosing a bull for Usman’s mother, as a gesture of love from the San Diego native to her potential mother-in-law. The traditional gift did not go over well, as it was perceived as a self-serving payoff. 

The tense conversation played out in the home of Usman’s mother, who was not swayed after she received her live gift. 

Kim asked for permission to speak as the family discussion went in circles. 

“I really wish that you could get to know me for who I am,” she said. “Everything I do is from my heart. People that know me would die if they thought that your family would think I would bribe them.”

Usman’s brother spoke of a negative past experience, referencing Usman’s first  American wife, Lisa Hamme. 

“That’s not my fault,” Kim tearfully said. “That’s not my problem. If you don’t agree with me and you’ll never accept me, I’ll go home.”

Kim reiterated that the cow was not a bribe, and admitted that while she might not be a perfect woman, “the love is there.”

Kim likened the discussion to “talking to a brick wall.” She admitted that while she understood that the family was skittish over Usman’s past decisions, she felt that she didn’t deserve to be stereotyped. 

“I’m not like her, and I feel really dumb that I have to defend myself this much,” she said.

Kim pointed out that allowing Usman to have children with a second wife was a big step for an American woman. 

“Me allowing him to have a second wife, that’s a lot for me in my culture,” she explained. 

The duo had previously agreed that Usman would be allowed to marry a second wife to father a child. Usman’s mother listened to their plan but shared her belief that her son should marry a younger, local woman as his first wife. She also expressed concern that he would run from Nigeria to follow Kim to America. 

Usman later admitted in an interview that he didn’t expect the family  discussion to be so difficult, calling the whole ordeal a “bad experience.”

The next day, the couple decided to lay out their entire plan for Usman’s family. Kim reiterated that she would never be a man’s second wife. 

“If I leave here single, I leave here single,” she said.

“I’ve been compromising more than what you’ve compromised,” Usman replied. “You’re not compromising anything to me.”

Usman told cameras that he wasn’t giving up on Kim, despite her “disrespectful” breakup threat. Kim declared that she would never be “anybody’s second anything,” which angered her fiancé.

Usman noted that he could have been pursuing sexy, beautiful women, but had chosen Kim because of love. 

“So am I ugly now?” Kim asked.

“Telling me we should break up? At your age? If we break up, do you think I have anything to regret? You need to understand that I don’t need anything from any woman,” Usman fired back.

Kim stormed back to her hotel room, fuming—”I’m not doing this. He doesn’t deserve it. I’m tired of the little f—ing comments. Like he’s doing me a favor.”

“Let him find one that’s as good as I am,” Kim said. ”I don’t even want the blessing now. I just don’t care.” 

90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? airs Sundays at 8 pm ET on TLC.
