‘Sister Wives’ Recap: Christine Brown Blasts Kody For Choosing His Friend Over His Own Kids!
The October 23rd episode of Sister Wives centers around Kody Brown officiating a friend’s wedding in Texas while going through a divorce. Christine Brown and Janelle Brown are floored as Kody breaks COVID protocols for his friend, but not his own family. Then, Kody and Christine argue over selling her house and custody of their daughter, Truely Brown.
Sister Wives: Christine Blasts Kody
The episode starts with Kody Brown on his way to Texas to officiate a friend’s wedding during the COVID-19 pandemic. Christine Brown has some very strong feelings about his decision because of how it affected her daughters.
In a talking head confessional, Christine explains that two of her daughters found out what Kody was up to from Janelle’s kids and they’re highly upset because months earlier, he had chosen not to travel with Christine and Ysabel for her scoliosis surgery.
“Ysabel’s heartbroken, oh my gosh,” a visibly distraught Christine says. “She goes, ‘how can he justify officiating Brian Coldwell’s wedding when he wouldn’t even come to my surgery?'”
Kody responded in a talking head confessional, “Ysabel’s surgery was at a time and a situation where it would’ve required that I’m six or eight weeks away from home,” he said. “No man can be away from work and from home and from family that long.”
Kody justifies his actions by claiming he was only away for his friend’s wedding for four days.
“And now I’m mad, what the hell?” Christine said to cameras. “You think you get to go officiate your friend’s wedding and not take care of your own family?”
Kody’s says Christine “protesteth too much,” and making him out to be the bad guy.
“She is trying to excuse herself by making me some kind of villain,” he continued.
In response, Christine said she’s glad she’s no longer married to Kody “because I cannot respect this person anymore.”
Kody places all the blame on Christine and says she, “needs a mirror up in her face.”
“I really find it hard to stay with a guy who I don’t respect,” Christine explains. “I needed more communication, more trust, and I realized we didn’t really have a partnership.”
Sister Wives: Kody Officiates Friend’s Wedding
Kody Brown arrives in Texas for his friend, Brian Coldwell’s wedding. As he officiates the wedding and reads his sermon about the virtues of a successful marriage, I can’t help but wonder had he practiced what he preached, maybe he could have saved his other three marriages.
After the couple exchange their vows, Kody sings the praises of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Coldwell, then he flops around the dance floor like a chicken with a missing head.
“It was fun introducing them. They’re very traditional. She wanted Brian’s name. That was one of the things that helped me affirm, get this crazy demon out of my head. I got followed here by a demon, you know? And she is very much this perfectly supportive wife, and I think she was very excited about me introducing them as Mr. and Mrs. Brian Coldwell,” Kody says.
Take note, Kody nor any of the people attending the wedding are wearing masks.
Sister Wives: Kody Threatens Christine With Lawyers
Later in the episode, Christine and Kody sit down to iron out a custody arrangement for their daughter Truely, and discuss the sale of Christine’s house.
Christine feels the two can avoid lawyers by working out an agreement among themselves since they were never legally married. But Kody says those technicalities aren’t relevant.
“In this case, we’ve got an issue where we have to have a child custody agreement in place. Basically, we just say 50-50 agreement then we just work out the details all the time,” Kody says. “Otherwise you’re gonna get a lawyer and the government involved and the lawyer is going to take all the money you have.”
“Does he not understand I want him to be around his kids? I’m not gonna fight him on that, I’ve always wanted him to be around his kids. So why would I say, ‘I don’t want you to be around Truely’? That doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.” Christine says in a talking head confessional.
Christine realizes that Kody doesn’t trust her, and he agrees.
“No, I don’t trust her. How am I supposed to trust her? What’s the next move she’s gonna make against me?” Kody asks.
Christine says she doesn’t think that involving a lawyer is necessary, whereas Kody wants to make their agreement legally binding.
“You have to have a child custody agreement in place, otherwise the state gets involved,” he says.
Christine wonders if they need to mention that she’s moving to Utah in their agreement. Kody feels strongly against having Utah in his business.
“No, no, we’re not doing anything ever in Utah,” Kody says. “Don’t ever involve Utah. Even if she’s living there, we get a child custody agreement here.”
During his confessional, Kody also reflects on the negative aspects of any breakup.
“Usually, divorces just aren’t that nice. She’s going back to a state that will come after me if she decides to,” he says.
A clip of Kody in Christine’s garage is shown where she’s packed up all his stuff from their shared house.
“She told me that she was trying to be benevolent in packing up my stuff and getting it out of the house cause she knew I didn’t have the time to do it. And frankly, I wouldn’t have done it. I would’ve been obstinate about it because that was my house. I want to live there still,” Kody says. “If she was truly being benevolent, maybe she can be trusted through all of this — but I don’t know.”
Sister Wives airs Sundays, at 10 p.m. ET, on TLC.
