‘Sister Wives’ Recap: Kody Brown Refuses To ‘Suffer’ With Janelle When He Could Be Happy With Robyn!

The October 16th episode of Sister Wives follows Ysabel Brown packing up for college, Gwedolyn Brown opens up about her sexuality, and Christine Brown’s moving timeline doesn’t sit well with Kody. And Christine’s forced tp tell Truely about the divorce.

Kody Calls Christine Hostile

The episode starts with Christine and Kody meeting to discuss how they’ll break the news of their split to their daughter, Truely. Kody is dragging his feet on having the emotional discussion with his 11-year-old but Christine wants to get the ball rolling on the whole process. He wants Truely to spend time with him at Robyn Brown’s house after/amid the split. Kody prefers Christine to stay in Flagstaff as a convenience for him to see his kids but Christine’s got one foot out the door.

Christine reveals she would have told Truely months ago and moved over the summer. Kody brings up Christine’s portion of the family’s food storage and she tells him to keep it and also hurry up and move his belongings out her garage, so she can sell her property. Christine’s done with Kody, mormonism, polygamy and a loveless relationship. She doesn’t want any dead weight holding her back and Kody views her rush to move as “hostile,” and her decisions spiteful.

Christine Brown

“I don’t wanna move my stuff out. Christine moved me out, I didn’t want her to move me out. I didn’t give her permission to move me out. You know, I’ve tried to give my wives sort of the sovereignty to feel like they’ve got control over their lives, and in doing so, I made it so I had no control over mine,” Kody says in a talking head confessional.

Road Trip To Meri’s B&B

Kody and Janelle hit the road to visit Meri’s Bed & Breakfast in Utah, with Janelle’s RV in tow. But Meri’s not happy (as usual) — she refers to them as “free” customers and complains that her own “family” didn’t pay for their stay, so she’s not cooking breakfast for them. Janelle chooses to stay in her RV because Meri’s inn is haunted. Kody’s anxious to get back to Arizona because he can’t be away from Robyn’s kids for long.

Kody Doesn’t Want to Live With Janelle in Her RV

Kody finally parks Janelle’s RV on her plot of land at Coyote Pass. He’s not a happy camper and is having a rough time with Janelle’s choice to live a ‘tiny’ RV, when he has all the comforts at Robyn’s house.

“In plural marriage, if you’re not around a lot for a wife, she takes it personally,” Kody says in a talking head confessional. “In this case, Janelle has a tiny little kitchen and a tiny little house and a tiny little bathroom, and if I’m not around she will start to feel like she’s marginalized. But she made choices that are major inconveniences to me and to my lifestyle because she wanted this RV, so now there’s an inclination for me to go, ‘Oh there’s hot water at Robyn’s house, why am I going to sit here with you and suffer with your choices?”

Janelle Brown

“I guess Janelle living in this trailer wouldn’t be too far off of the mobile home that we lived in,” Meri, says. “When you’re living in a three-bedroom mobile home with three wives, it just gets, it’s very, you have to have a lot of patience, and you have to be aware of your surroundings,” Meri continues.

“Is this going to be something that brings them together?” Robyn wonders. “Or is it going to be something that they’re frustrated that this got chosen? I just keep praying for them.”

Kody also pointed out that he would much rather live at Robyn’s house, “Robyn makes it convenient for me to be there. She enforces my relationship, or reinforces my relationship with my children.”

Janelle made a choice,” Kody continues. “I will accommodate that choice as best I can, and then make my own choices.”

Truely Finds Out About The Divorce

Later in the episode, Christine and Mykelti discuss her move to Utah on the phone when Truely accidentally overhears the conversation, which leads to a difficult discussion about Christine and Kody’s divorce.

Mykelti is so excited I’m moving to Utah. And I said, ‘Yeah, I’m excited to move too.’ And then I heard a gasp and I looked behind me and there was Truely,” Christine shared in a talking head confessional.

Originally, Christine and Kody planned to reveal their divorce to Truely together.

“We just hadn’t come to an agreement. But I obviously didn’t have a choice anymore (after Truely overheard me),” she said.

Christine was forced to tell Truely that the two of them would be moving soon — and explain the reason for the move.

“She’s in tears and she’s like, ‘Well, can I just go to my room?’ I said, ‘Well, there’s more, love,” she said.

“I knew that she hadn’t quite clocked that I was leaving Kody. And rather than let her leave the room and go process this, (I decided that) she needs to know everything.”

“And she goes, ‘Are you and dad getting divorced? And her little face was so heartbroken. I could’ve said, ‘Yeah, we’re going to be getting divorced.’ And then every time Kody would come over she would be watching us like crazy and worrying and wondering. Then also she might have this false sense of hope that we would get back together again,” Christine said.

Christine made the on the spot decision to be honest with her daughter and inform her that her parents were already divorced.

“I just really quickly made up my mind and told her, ‘No we’re already divorced,” she said.

“I didn’t know if Kody and I were actually divorced until this second. I just thought we were gonna be divorced, I didn’t know when we would actually be divorced cause there’s not ever gonna be a piece of paper from the government that says you’re divorced because we were never married legally,” she said.

Christine’s older daughters shared their thoughts on their parents split. Ysabel, 19, wasn’t all that surprised.

“I think with my mom and my dad getting a divorce, if I’m honest I did see it coming. But of course, I’m sad about it. I mean, sometimes it just doesn’t work out. And I’m happy that my mom will be able to find somebody who she’s really, really, really happy with,” Ysabel said in a talking head confessional.

Christine’s 26-year-old daughter, Mykelti, was pleasantly pleased with her parents divorce because of how Kody treated her mother over the years.

“I was honestly relieved when I heard my mom was leaving my dad. They’re not happy, they’re not in love,” Mykelti shared in a talking head confessional.

Sister Wives airs Sundays, at 10 p.m. ET, on TLC.
