Mia Thornton Says Ashley Darby Was Freed From Marital ‘Captivity’ Amid Split From Ex Michael!
Mia Thornton was glad to see her Real Housewives of Potomac co-star, Ashley Darby, make the break from her husband, Michael Darby. Mia, 37, spoke to Page Six about her co-star freeing herself from matrimonial “captivity.”
“Ashley’s in a good space, right? She is just glowing, she’s TikToking, she’s booty-shaking everywhere. I love to see it. I love to see beautiful women, beautiful moms living life, being free,” Mia told the outlet.
“She looks free,” the reality star said, joking —“Like, she’s been held in captivity and now she’s been let free.”
Ashley, 34, announced that she and Michael, 63, were calling it quits, in April. They share two sons, Dean, 3, and Dylan, 19 months.
“People will be quick to assume that the causes were too much intrusion by reality TV into the most personal parts of our lives, age gap issues, cultural problems, or child-rearing differences,” she explained in a statement to the “Daily Dish,” in April.
“Pieces of all these may have affected our pure love for each other, but no one reason is the root cause of our mutual decision to go our separate ways.”
Ashley reveals her plan to divorce the Australian restauranteur on Season 7 of RHOP, but confuses her co-stars when she shares their plan to buy a home together under an LLC. She clarifies that she had not yet hired a divorce lawyer, in a sneak peek for Sunday night’s premiere episode.
“I have made it very clear to everyone that I am just starting this process,” Ashley tells her Uncle Lump and mother, Sheila Matthews. “I don’t have answers right now.”
Ashley revealed in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight that there was a “pivotal moment that made [the breakup] come to fruition” amid the couple’s struggle to save their relationship. She confirmed to the outlet that Michael would not be appearing on the upcoming season of RHOP.
Ashley and Michael wed in 2014.
Some of Ashley’s co-stars were perplexed by her decision to buy property with her soon-to-be ex, but Mia remained unconcerned.
“OK, my viewpoint on this might be [controversial],” Mia explained. “I’m a businesswoman, OK? If she was buying this house in their personal names, I say, ‘No, never, never, never.’ But the fact that it’s going in an LLC, I’m like, ‘Yes. Business opportunity, honey!’”
Mia, her husband, Gordon Thornton, and their three children recently moved from their Baltimore penthouse into a Potomac mansion. She advised the mom of two to “buy low, sell high” and “then go buy a house” on her own.
“That’s what I say!” Mia laughed. “Michael Darby can buy me a house under the LLC, too, if he wants to.”
The Real Housewives of Potomac Season 7 premieres on October 9 at 8 pm, ET, on Bravo.
