‘Married at First Sight’ Producers Allowed Abuser To Marry Stranger Despite Multiple Warnings!
Married At First Sight producers are getting backlash for hiring an abuser for the show and letting them marry one of the contestants!
Married At First Sight producers were made aware of George Roberts’ abuse allegations from his ex-girlfriends. Still, they did nothing to stop him from marrying former Miss Great Britain, April Banbury. The contestant’s ex-girlfriends all made separate complaints to the reality show’s producers but they didn’t do anything about it. One of them said, “I’m so shocked to see he has been given a platform on a TV show. I messaged Married at First Sight UK, I said, ‘I reported him to the police.’ They asked for additional information which I gave and I never heard anything further.”
Another one of George’s ex-girlfriends said, “I contacted Married At First Sight, E4 and All4 and the producers to tell them he was a known emotional and mental abuser of women.” The third woman who dated Roberts, 40, said that she sent all the evidence she had to the producers but they didn’t take any action and only said they would be looking into it. The three women all dated George after he divorced his ex-wife. The women told the police that he love-bombed them with gifts and attention before his attitude changed to controlling and coercive.
A spokesperson for Channel 4 where MAFS is hosted said, “We work incredibly closely with our production partners to ensure all Married at First Sight UK contributors are subject to rigorous background and psychological checks, including the most detailed police checks a production is able to undertake. Any allegations of this nature are taken extremely seriously by Channel 4.” A spokesperson for George denied the allegations from the women. “As a father of daughters, he finds these accusations deeply upsetting and does not condone abuse nor behaves in that way. These allegations were never brought to his attention, investigated, or taken further by the police for good reason as they are simply not true.”
Married At First Sight star, April, also commented on the situation saying, “These revelations have knocked me for six. My head is spinning too much to comment.” However, she hinted on Instagram that her relationship with George might be over. “The traumas that have been brought on from this show have made me re-evaluate things. I really have and I’m not ashamed to admit, I have been seeing a therapist ever since.”
