Sister Wives is set to feature Christine Brown opening up about why she made the decision to leave Kody Brown after years of unhappiness. Christine shares more of her personal story in a sneak peek preview of Sunday’s episode.

“I’ve had three wives threaten to leave me on and off our entire marriages. The threat to leave is always out there,” Kody says in the preview.

Kody Brown

Christine, 50, announced that she was leaving Kody and the Brown family in November 2021.

Christine shares how she felt during her difficult years in the plural marriage.

“Even when things were hard, I just thought, ‘Well, it can be hard. Plural marriage can be hard.’ I just thought that it was OK to be sad, and I think I was a lot sadder than I thought,” the TLC mom says. “But I tried. I tried to be happy as much as possible and certainly, I still found joy in things. Plural marriage is tough. It’s really tough.”

Janelle Brown

Kody’s second wife, Janelle Brown, admits in a confessional spot that Kody and Christine’s split was “an inevitability.”

Kody’s distant first wife, Meri Brown, 51, compares plural marriage to “any other marriage.”

“If the parties involved aren’t interested or willing to do it, there’s really not a whole lot else that can be done,” she says.

Robyn Brown

Kody’s fourth wife, Robyn Brown, 43, points out the importance of not becoming “lazy” in plural marriage.

“You have to choose it every day,” Robyn notes in a personal interview. “You have to want everyone in the family to be happy as much as you want yourself to be happy. That’s the only way to do it successfully, in my opinion.”

Christine shared her belief that Robyn was Kody’s “favorite wife” in the premiere episode.

Kody and Christine were together for 25 years before parting ways. They share six children—son Paedon, 23, and daughters Aspyn, 27, Mykelti, 26, Gwendlyn, 20, Ysabel, 19, and Truely, 12.

The TLC patriarch apologizes to Christine for his anger over the situation in the upcoming episode.

“I want to apologize for being so angry,” Kody tells Christine. “I just said, ‘Christine, What do you want?’ And you said, ‘I just want to be free.’ I’m sorry I was so angry.”

Kody Brown

Kody admits that he’s had to do “a lot of introspection” about his own behavior during their relationship and subsequent breakup. Christine calls her ex’s confession “sweet,” and shares that she’s happy that Kody appears to be supporting her choice.

“I need to get to a place where I can rejoice about your happiness and your freedom,” Kody states.

“Thank you, that’s like the sweetest thing that you’ve ever said, by the way,” Christine replies.

However, Kody also calls Christine’s decision to seek personal happiness a “major injustice.”

Sister Wives airs on Sundays at 10 pm, ET, on TLC.
