The Internal Revenue Service has updated the claims they filed as part of Tom Girardi’s bankruptcy case.
According to Radar Online, the IRS has updated their $3.5 million claim, which was part of Tom Girardi’s Chapter 7 Bankruptcy case, to $4.5 million. Per court documents, the IRS claimed that Tom owed 760k for 2018, $3.3 million for 2019 in back taxes, and $50k as a penalty for 2020. but due to interest, the amount has gone up to $4.5 million. The disgraced lawyer and his firm Girardi & Keese were forced into bankruptcy after their creditors filed claims totaling over $500 million.
Erika filed for divorce from Tom Girardi in 2020 after 20 years of marriage when his legal troubles began mounting, however, the court process has been delayed until his bankruptcy cases are resolved. That hasn’t stopped lawyers from coming after The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star. One of the trustees presiding over Tom Girardi’s bankruptcy case demanded the reality star return a pair of diamond earrings given to her by her estranged husband that are worth $1.4 million. They claimed Tom bought the earrings with money that belonged to his clients from 2007. As part of the earring case, Erika was also hit with a tax bill that she admitted she couldn’t pay.
The ‘XXPEN$IVE’ singer revealed in May 2022 that her business manager received an income due tax notice bill from the California Franchise Tax Board dated May 10, 2022. “It stated that I owe $2,226,985.77 in taxes for 2019,” Jayne said. At the time, she was in the middle of trying to figure out the basis of the tax bill with the help of her business manager who is also an accountant. She continued, “I do not have the ability to pay the FTB tax bill. I also do not know if the FTB is claiming any sort of lien on my assets, which include the diamond earrings.”
The trustee is also suing Erika Jayne for $25 million demanding she returns all the money Tom and his firm spent on her company, EJ Global. In October 2021, Erika’s attorney filed documents claiming she had “no role in the management of [Tom’s] firm and currently has no knowledge of whatever transpired at GK related to the Lion Air litigation filed in November 2018, or the settlement funds.”
