Kandi Burruss’ restaurant, Blaze Seafood and Steak, reopened on Friday, September 6, after one of the employees was shot.
According to South Fulton police, Kandi’s restaurant was the crime scene after two employees got into an altercation and one ended up firing a gun. One of the employees shot Kandi’s nephew, Chef Melvin Jones, and struck him in the arm. The chef posted photos of his injuries to his Instagram page and wrote, “Still here cause granny be praying for me.” Melvin was taken to a local hospital where he was treated while the suspect escaped. Recent reports claim the suspect, Henry Darden, was later taken into police custody and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
On Wednesday, Kandi took to Instagram to inform her fans that the restaurant would be closed for staff training. “Blaze will be closed today for a system update and staff training. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. We will reopen Friday, September 9th at 1 PM.” This is not the first time one of Kandi and Todd’s restaurants has had a shooting. In 2020, three people were shot at one of their Old Lady Gang restaurants where Kandi’s spin-off Kandi & The Gang was filmed. Reports taken during the 2020 incident claim that a man walked into the restaurant and shot one person while injuring two other people. The three were left with non-life-threatening injuries.
At the time, Kandi put out a statement on her Instagram page. “My family and I are truly saddened by the unfortunate events that occurred at Old Lady Gang (OLG) Camp Creek, on the evening of February 14th, an evening that was meant to celebrate love, unfortunately turned into something quite different. Our prayers and thoughts go out to the individuals that were harmed or in any way negatively impacted. We are aware that this matter is being actively investigated by law enforcement and we are cooperating with law enforcement to bring to justice those involved.”
Real Housewives of Atlanta fans reacted to the shooting at Kandi’s restaurant and wished her cousin a speedy recovery. One fan tweeted, “Prayers for a speedy recovery for @Kandi cousin has been injured due to a shoot out at her Atlanta restaurant prayers for the entire crew.”
