‘Married to Medicine’ RECAP: Toya Admits That She & Eugene Are Having Marital Issues!
Welcome back to another episode of Married to Medicine! This week, we begin with Quad Webb playing with nephew, Mason, as he goes to school. Dr. Simone Whitmore’s at the office as Toya Bush-Harris cleans up with her boys. Dr. Heavenly Kimes is stopping by Dr. Damon Kimes’s office for lunch and to chat about Heavenly’s mom. Damon apologized to Heavenly for walking out on Simone and Cecil’s dinner and Heavenly admits to needing time away from Dr. Contessa Metcalfe. Dr. Scott Metcalfe and Dr. Contessa are working at their practice as they discuss the issues with Heavenly. Contessa claims to be over it and is giving Heavenly grace because of her mother’s condition.
Heavenly continues apologizing to Damon for her actions and admits that her mother’s condition isn’t an excuse to act out. Damon understands that Heavenly is going through a lot and wants Heavenly to take care of herself. Scott hopes Contessa reaches out to Heavenly and Contessa thinks of Heavenly as a sister. Contessa’s going to love Heavenly from afar, but we know their friendship is hanging on by a thread. That evening, Dr. Martin Curry and Audra Curry finally have their solo scene as we see them meet with their wedding planner. Although Audra and Martin already got married in the courthouse, Audra wants to have a celebration now that the world has opened back up. We hear about how Audra and Martin met, and we find out how expensive wedding material is.
Audra wants a lot of expensive things for her wedding but what do you expect from these ladies? Go big or go home! Audra and Martin are spending a lot of money on this wedding, but it seems like Martin gives Audra whatever she wants. I ain’t mad at it. Anila Sajja and her mom are riding around as Anila avoids hitting other drivers, SMH. Anila thanks her mother for her help and explains her newest business venture. Anila’s opening a luxury hair shop and wants to see raw Indian hair to help with regrowth. Anila shows her mother the new beauty warehouse and of course, Anila’s mom has a problem with everything! It’s not even her warehouse! Anila’s mom wants her to build a kitchen inside the hair salon. There’s no winning with this woman!
At Dr. Jackie Walter’s office, she’s meeting with a patient who is also a podcaster for ‘Dumb Gay Politics.’ Dr. Jackie met them and wanted to make sure they received their annual pap smears. Dr. Jackie took care of the patient painlessly and Jackie continues teaching us something new about ourselves and our health. It’s Dr. Kiran Sajja’s turn to throw an event for the fellas so he invites the fellas out for a relaxing night. Kiran has Botox, food, massages, and bourbon for the men, and is ready to unwind. The fellas arrive looking amazing and it’s always nice to see the men get together. Kiran wants the fellas to try out Botox but they’re too afraid to try it.
The men give Kiran his props as Dr. Scott arrives. Damon and Scott are still on good terms and Scott learned his lesson about getting in the middle of their drama. Eugene asks the men about the O-Shot that the women got, and he has a huge smile on his face. Kiran tells the men about Anila bringing her mother and Damon begins telling the men about hormone replacement therapy. Kiran directs the fellas to the rest of the stations as the men enjoy full-service pampering. Eugene and Damon chat while Martin falls deeper into his massage chair and Eugene questions if they work too hard and neglect themselves. Damon gives Eugene encouragement that he can be successful outside of the ER.
Martin claims to be listening since he’s getting married in a few weeks as Cecil, Kiran, and Scott talk Botox. Martin’s continuing his massage when Cecil and Kiran replace the technician without Martin noticing; The men laugh. I wish the ladies can have this much fun together. The next day, Toya visits her spiritual advisor to talk about her stressors and what’s going on in the household. Meanwhile, Eugene’s at Damon’s office to get some advice about potentially leaving the ER. Eugene is stressed and feels burned out in his current role and needs a change. Both Toya and Eugene were stressed, and I think they were having a hard time adjusting to the new normal.
Toya feels like something happened during the pandemic and Eugene isn’t able to connect with Toya emotionally right now. Eugene’s looking for inspiration and wonders what life would look like if he ventured into another practice. The pandemic was overwhelming and Toya admits that her kids noticed that she’s not as happy as she used to be. Toya gets emotional as she realizes how unhappy she is. Toya began blaming Eugene for their disconnection, but Toya realizes that she needed to feed her spirit. Her advisor suggests communicating and I think Toya understands that she needs to put in extra effort, as well. Damon wasn’t happy in the ER and even his son noticed how happy he was once he left. Eugene will figure it out. We’re rooting for you!
The next day, Anila’s home with her mom when she realizes how much of a mess her house is. Anila’s a little frustrated because she has a photographer coming and she doesn’t have time to grill her mother about the chores. Anila’s mom is unaware of the subtle cues Anila’s giving and makes excuses for why the house isn’t clean. Anila goes upstairs to get ready, and her mom is right behind her as she tries on clothes without taking Anila seriously. Anila sits her mom down to talk and explains that she’s not following any of their rules. Anila’s mom gets offended, and we see the true dynamic of their relationship. Anila has no voice when it comes to her mom, and I don’t think she’ll ever be able to satisfy her. The conversation went nowhere, and Anila’s mom leaves angrily as Anila sits in the mess she created. Parents just don’t understand, SMH. Be sure to come back next week for a brand-new episode of Married to Medicine!
