Phaedra Parks Has PTSD After Being Fired From ‘RHOA!’
Phaedra Parks admitted that she went into depression after she was forced to exit The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
Phaedra Parks left Bravo in 2017 after a falling out with her friend and co-star Kandi Burruss. In an exclusive interview, the reality star told Page Six that she faced a few mental health struggles after leaving the franchise. Parks revealed that she wants to help other people who are going through the same thing through the book she is writing. The mortician said that she plans on sharing her mental health journey and the affirmations that helped her through her depression.
Phaedra said, “And I went through … depression and a lot of emotions because ‘Housewives’ can give you PTSD. I think anyone that’s been on it for over four to five years will experience some PTSD because it can be very traumatic.” The mother of two shared that she bounced back from her struggle with the help of her family and loved ones. She shares two sons, Ayden, 12, and Dyan, 9, with ex-husband, Apollo Nida. Phaedra continued, “So I wanted to write a book for women — men can read it, too — that really gave a part of my testimony of just being an overcomer.”
The former Real Housewives of Atlanta made her return to reality TV and Bravo on the Peacock spin-off series, The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Ex-Wives Club. Parks said about her return to TV, “As you can see God gave me double for my trouble, honey.” She continued, “I look younger, I feel younger, so I lost nothing.” She added that, in the book, she talks about her personal story and the steps she took to recover. “Sometimes when people go through bad things, they don’t have a prayer life or they don’t really understand the power of meditation, the power of thinking positive, the power of claiming and proclaiming success, healing over their lives.”
Phaedra Parks said that she wants the book to help and encourage those who do not have people to talk to or confide in. “I just want people to know, even through my book, there’s nothing wrong with saying, ‘I need help,’ or, ‘I’m feeling this way.’” She continued, “You should be able to feel transparent to people who love you — and get aid.” This isn’t Phaedra’s first book. Her last book, Secrets of the Southern Belle: How To Be Nice, Work Hard, Look Pretty, Have Fun and Never Have An Off Moment, hit shelves in 2013.
