‘Sister Wives’ Season 17 Preview Trailer Teases Kody and Christine Brown Split!

Christine Brown announced that she was splitting from Kody Brown in November 2021, and viewers will see how it all unfolded in Season 17 of Sister Wives.

TLC dropped a preview trailer of the upcoming season Monday, which features Christine, 50, packing her belongings after making the decision to leave the spiritual marriage. 

“I have decided to leave. I’m gonna leave Kody,” Christine says in a confessional spot. 

Christine acknowledges that tension exists within the marriage, before revealing the reason behind her decision to leave Kody. She remarks—that “to Kody, Robyn [Brown]’s more important.”

“It’s been heartbreaking being your wife for years,” Christine tells Kody, during an emotional exchange. 

“I agreed to be a sister wife,” she later adds in a personal interview. “But I agreed to be an equal wife.”

During a sit-down with his wives, Kody goes off on Christine.

“You never tried to have a really good relationship with these people and that’s the reason I’m pissed off,” Kody yells at Christine as Janelle and Robyn look on. “Man, just the knife in the kidneys over all these years.”

“All the sacrifices that I’ve made to love you,” Kody shouts, before storming off.

The trailer teases that the other wives were hit hard by the news and that Christine’s absence was felt by the whole clan.

Janelle, 53, seemingly implies that Christine’s decision was not a surprise.  

“I feel like it’s more of an inevitability coming instead of a ‘Let’s try to work this out,'” Janelle says.  

Meri weighs in on the shift, commenting through tears—”I felt like Christine was more than a sister wife. I felt like she was a friend for a lot of years.”

Janelle shares a concern that their family unit may not survive.

“I’m not really sure we have a family anymore,” she says.

The Brown wives work to “rebuild” their bond after Christine’s departure,  but Janelle’s marriage to Kody appears to be on shaky ground. She tells viewers at one point that Kody is “no longer acting like my husband.”

Kody admits that the situation casts their plural marriage narrative in a negative light.  

“The message that we had to the world about functional polygamy seems so dysfunctional now,” the TLC patriarch says in a confessional.

Christine revealed that she was ending the 25-year spiritual marriage during last season’s finale.

“The intimate part of our marriage is over,” she said. “And to be honest, I’m not okay with that. I’m not okay with staying in a marriage where there’s no intimacy. That’s not a real marriage. I’m not interested in a half marriage or a partial marriage or whatever we have.”
