Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson to Undergo Weight Loss Surgery Alongside Boyfriend Dralin Carswell!
Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson is planning to go under the knife in a last-ditch effort to lose weight. The 16-year-old reality star is headed to New York City in August to undergo weight loss surgery, Alana’s manager confirmed to Page Six.
Weight loss doctor, Steven Batash, will perform a suture sculpt endoscopic sleeve on the Mama June: Road to Redemption star after her 17th birthday. The procedure costs about $13K, per a TMZ report.
Alana reportedly weighs 275 pounds and wants to drop 150 pounds post-surgery. The Toddler and Tiaras alum has had little success with various diets and is reportedly concerned that her weight is genetic. Alana believes that surgery is the only way she’ll be able to hit her weight loss goal.
Alana’s boyfriend, Dralin Carswell, will also be going under the knife amid his own struggle to lose weight.
Alana and Dralin went Facebook official with their courtship in March 2021, when Dralin updated his status to “in a relationship.”
Alana and Dralin reside in Georgia, where the legal age for sexual consent is 16 years old.
Alana spoke about her new relationship during a 2021 interview with Teen Vogue, sharing that she believed that Dralin was her only real friend. The former TLC star explained that she struggled to connect with kids her own age.
“To be honest, I do not have many friends. At all,” she told the outlet. “Because I feel like folks are so much like, ‘Oh, my God, I’m friends with Honey Boo Boo.’”
The famous teen added—“I don’t trust nobody, really, so I don’t have friends.”
In May 2022, Alana’s mother, Mama June Shannon, spoke to TooFab about her daughter’s first romance, sharing that Alana had received “a lot of hate” over the interracial relationship.
“She is getting a lot of hate because she’s in an interracial relationship, he is older,” the WeTV star told the outlet. “At the end of the day, Alana’s not that 6-, 7-year-old child y’all fell in love with 11 years ago.”
Alana addressed her famous past during the Teen Vogue interview. She shared that she had moved on from her Honey Boo Boo persona, and had embraced her true identity.
“They are completely two different people,” Alana said. “I would say that I do like this Alana now, rather than the younger Alana.”
Alana added that she keeps her guard up while navigating social media, and chooses to not take negative comments to heart.
“I don’t ever look at people and I’m like, ‘Oh, I wish I was like her.’ Because I don’t ever wish to be like nobody. I am my own person,” the teen said.
“I don’t understand why people think this way. Just because I got a little bit of extra meat on my bones, you want to hate me? I’ll never get body shaming,” Alana said, at the time. “Like, I know I’m beautiful, and I know I got a banging body, so…I don’t care.”
