Tom Girardi Tries To Save Furniture From Being Auctioned Off In Bankruptcy!
Erika Jayne’s ex-husband, Tom Girardi, tried to save some of his belongings when he heard they were to be auctioned off.
Tom Girardi allegedly got his team of lawyers to go to court and try and save some of his property from being auctioned. According to court documents obtained by Radar Online, the disgraced lawyer’s brother, Robert, went to court and asked to take some belongings from Tom’s former home. This news comes after the judge presiding over Girardi’s bankruptcy case signed off on an auction company to sell off the lawyer’s property.
The auction was approved in an effort to get enough money to pay off Tom’s creditors who include orphans, widows, and other victims. Some of the things the trustee asked to be sold included Tom and Erika’s Steinway piano, religious icons, statues, lamps, rugs, ceramics, glassware, clothing and shoes, and sports memorabilia. Girardi had been forced out of his home in February 2021, after his family alleged he had dementia and had him moved to an assisted living home. After his move, Tom’s brother, Robert, placed him under conservatorship after his diagnosis.
Now, Tom’s brother has filed an amended list of property that he wants to claim as exempt from the auction. The auction is set for September 21, 2022, and is expected to collect between $200k – $280k. Robert said that Tom wanted things like outdoor patio furniture, tables, chairs, cushions, and a sofa worth $5k not to be sold. Robert also alleged that Tom listed a few things he wants to keep — like an outdoor metal planter worth $500, his $2k bedroom set and mattress, a modestly priced sofa, dresser, kitchen table and chairs, 4 nightstands, and a rug in the library.
Tom Girardi also listed the piano, however, he doesn’t believe the full amount should be exempt. The trustee appointed over Tom’s bankruptcy case has yet to respond to their latest move. The former mansion, which contains all of the lawyer’s belongings, was also put on the market in 2021 for $11 million, but it got no buyers, so the price was slashed down to $8 million. Former trustee in one of Girardi’s cases, Ronald Richards, and his wife, Lauren, made an offer on the home in an effort to help the victims. After Richards heard of Girardi’s recent plea to get some property from the home, he responded.
Richards tweeted, “Why he is competent enough to engage an attorney to try and claim exemptions now is concerning. First he called us last week about Erika’s deposition, now he is directing litigation strategy.” Bravo fans who have been following Tom and Erika’s legal woes also chimed in on the former lawyer claiming some of his property. One fan said, “I’ve always doubted this dementia diagnosis. Occurred too conveniently along with the (yet to be finalized) divorce.”
