Kyle Richards Swears She Was Laughing at Erika Jayne Not Disrespecting Garcelle’s Son

Kyle Richards is doubling down in damage control mode, after taking heat for laughing about Erika Jayne berating Garcelle Beauvais’ teenage son, during her birthday party.

During Wednesday night’s episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Kyle landed herself in hot water with fans, but she insisted that she wasn’t giggling at the expense of Garcelle’s 14-year-old son, Jax, but simply laughing at Erika’s “drunken behavior.”

Erika repeatedly ordered Jax to “f**k off” at his mother’s filmed birthday bash.

Kyle Richards, 53, took to social media to smooth things over with viewers, after the preview featured the mom of four cackling with co-star, Dorit Kemsley, and the pair’s husbands. Her explanation did little to thwart the wave of negative comments flooding social media.

Kyle spoke to Metro UK, in what appeared to be a desperate effort to make amends with the Bravo audience, ahead of Wednesday’s episode.

“I didn’t even see Erika say that, I was told the next day,” Kyle told the outlet. “I was laughing at a friend’s drunken behavior as one does sometimes. Nothing to do with disrespecting anyone’s child especially.”

She added, ”I’m a mom of four daughters. I think if I had obviously seen it – because I only saw it actually last night on Instagram, that clip – I would have a different reaction.”

Many fans pointed out that Kyle’s youngest child is 14-years-old, the same age as Jax. Kyle’s husband, Mauricio Umansky, called Erika’s actions “great” in the sneak peek footage.

Kyle said in a confessional spot during the preview, “The Erika that we’ve known all these years was holding a lot in, so seeing this side of her — more open and honest — even if she’s not always showing her best side, at least it’s genuine.”

Kyle Richards, who reiterated that her behavior “wasn’t about Garcelle and her son, it was about Erika,” commented that she was disappointed in how viewers took her reaction.

“Especially when you’re not used to seeing that, you hear a story the next day, “Oh my God, so and so was so drunk, they did this and that,” and we laughed, it was like that,” she explained. “To think that someone misinterpreted it as that, that I didn’t care and being flippant about someone’s child…”

“I would hope that after 12 years on this show [that] people know me better,” the RHOBH star added.

Kyle clarified that she had yet to speak to Garcelle amid the backlash, but planned to send her a text to explain her behavior.

“Actually no, because I’m in London. I don’t know what time [it is], it’s 2am or something right now, I’m not even sure,” she responded when asked if she’d communicated with Garcelle. “But that’s my plan, in between interviews today, to send her a text.”

Earlier this week, a Twitter user tagged Garcelle in the clip of the women and their husbands laughing over Erika’s crude remarks aimed at her teenage son. The fan asked if she was aware of the filmed conversation.

Garcelle responded on July 4, writing alongside an angry face emoji, “Nope, never saw this scene until now.”

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills airs Wednesdays at 8 pm, ET, on Bravo.
