Disney ‘Big Hero 6’ Show Pushes Idea Of ‘Men Having Periods’ On Kids!
Disney’s upcoming kids series, Baymax, is already causing controversy days before its release.
The already controversial show is based on the beloved character from the film, Big Hero 6, and his life as a healthcare worker. Baymax has included a number of LGBTQ characters in an effort to be more inclusive. This move has raised a few eyebrows with fans who think Disney is trying to push their own agenda onto younger viewers.
A scene from Baymax’s third episode titled “Sofia” got a lot of people talking. In the episode, one of the pre-teen characters goes into an all genders bathroom where they find out they got their period right before the talent show. Luckily, Baymax steps in to help since he specializes in healthcare. He goes to the supermarket to buy some tampons and pads.
While at the store, Baymax encounters different people who help him get what needs including a transmasculine man wearing a transgender flag shirt. They suggest the pads with wings for Sofia, and other essential first-time items. A man in the same isle gives the robot a suggestion while he’s buying the pads for his daughter. Baymax goes back to the school to give Sofia the pads so she can compete in the talent show.
The show depicted how the topic of menstruation shouldn’t be seen as a taboo and kids should learn about it. There was also another episode totally dedicated to two young men going out on a date. Baymax convinced them to go on a date after loudly analyzing their attraction to each other. Disney’s decision towards inclusivity garnered mixed reactions online, with some praising Baymax as a gay icon while others see it as brainwashing.
Conservative writer, Christopher Rufo, shared a clip of one of the show’s episodes where Baymax goes to the store to buy tampons. According to Rufo’s tweet, the show is part of Disney’s bigger plan to re-engineer the discourse around kids and sexuality. He said, “I’ve obtained leaked video from Disney’s upcoming show “Baymax,” which promotes the transgender flag and the idea that men can have periods to children as young as two years old.”

His tweet didn’t sit well with a lot of people. One fan tweeted, “Baymax series including gay/trans people as well as discussions about periods is a great thing and is not at all political. It just shows normal and diverse people living their best lives. Yes it’s for children, but children will grow up and encounter all sorts of people.”
