Andy Cohen & Bravo Demand NeNe Leakes’ Racism Lawsuit Be Sealed From The Public!
NBCUniversal, Andy Cohen, and Bravo producers are working to keep the explosive lawsuit filed by Real Housewives of Atlanta alum, NeNe Leakes, under wraps, Radar Online reports.
Obtained court documents reveal that the court has been notified of the dispute between NeNe and defendants, NBC, Cohen, and producers, over how the case will go forward.
NeNe filed a lawsuit against Bravo, NBCUniversal, Andy Cohen, True Entertainment, and Truly Original, in April.
NeNe claimed that she was ousted after she told executives that her former co-star, Kim Zolciak-Biermann, made racist remarks while filming the show.
“As the Black Lives Matter movement swept our nation, Mrs. Leakes — Bravo’s historically most successful Black female talent — should have been embraced by NBC, Bravo, and True,” her lawsuit read. “Instead, NBC, Bravo, and True forced her out of the ‘house she built,’ denying her a regular role.”
Executives “did not terminate their relationship with Zolciak-Biermann, nor take any other meaningful action to put an end to her racially-offensive behavior” but instead gave her a spinoff show, the suit alleges.
Kim’s spinoff series, Don’t Be Tardy, aired for eight seasons on Bravo.
NeNe stated that Andy Cohen and the network went on to “blacklist” and “sabotage her attempts to secure work beyond RHOA.”
The new court filing reveals that the defendants requested that the case be moved to private arbitration. If a judge agrees, the case will be hidden from the public. NBC and Cohen claim that NeNe’s contract had a provision that required all legal issues to be addressed in arbitration.
NeNe and her lawyer have disputed the claim. Both sides agreed to extend the deadline by 45 days, to allow time to negotiate an agreement.
NeNe’s attorney wrote in the lawsuit—“From the day the series began filming, NeNe was the target of systemic racism from co-star Kim Zolciak-Biermann, which was tolerated by Bravo executive producer Andy Cohen and other executives.”
Kim’s on-and-off friendship with NeNe went south during Season 10, after Kim’s daughter filmed scurrying bugs in NeNe’s bathroom and posted the clip on social media. Kim claimed that NeNe lived in a “roach nest” which kicked off the “RoachGate” controversy. NeNe called Kim a racist, and other RHOA cast members agreed that her remark was problematic. Kim denied the allegation and declared that she was taking legal action against NeNe. Both women vowed that their friendship was over.
In October 2017, NeNe took to Instagram to blast her former co-star but was supposedly ordered by the network to delete the posts.
Kim spoke out for the first time about the legal skirmish earlier this month, during an appearance on OWN’s The Nightcap with Carlos King. The former Don’t Be Tardy star denied that she ever made racist remarks while filming the Georgia franchise.
“[NeNe] knows what she’s saying is not true in regards to me,” Kim told King. “That’s ridiculous, and she knows it.”
“I’ll deal with her when she’s done with them,” added the former Bravo star. ”You can’t say things that aren’t true and try to defame somebody.”
