Welcome To Plathville’s Barry and Kim Plath have a heart-to-heart about the state of their marriage during an upcoming episode.
In a sneak peek of this week’s episode of the TLC show, Kim, 49, and Barry, 54, come to terms with the fact that their marriage is over. The two have been living separately for months while trying to work on their issues. Barry says that he can’t help but feel betrayed that their relationship is over. “One thing I thought wouldn’t ever be shaken was us. Now it’s totally shaken up. It’s just really sad. It’s a tragedy,” he says.
While sitting next to each other, Barry asks Kim about her true intentions to separate. The father of 10 says that he also has his days where he feels like “a man of sorrows.” Barry went on to say that he also has questions like, “What’s running the show behind why you’re doing what you’re doing? I kind of value, after 24 years you don’t just go and throw things away.”
Kim says she just feels like she’s been hurt too much.
Even Barry’s efforts to get Kim to consider professional help didn’t help. He added that it could help them learn to speak each other’s language. However, Kim replied, “I just feel like it’s past that.” Barry fires back at her, accusing her of being selfish. Kim answers, “Do you want me to stay knowing that I’m not happy?”
Kim had made the decision to live apart from her family but admitted that at the time, she never imagined it would be like this. “It’s just a time of a lot of change right now, and I’m not sure exactly what that’s going to look like,” she said. Kim later spoke to the cameras about their conversation. “He’s, if anything, saying that it’s selfish for me to want to be in a healthy marriage as if I don’t have the right to be happy or the right to be in a healthy marriage as if I don’t matter — which is why we are where we are.”
Barry also opened up about the struggles his marriage faced in the past years that led to where they are now. He revealed they’ve had conversations here and there and the feedback he was getting is that Kim isn’t happy. “There was this whole issue of just taking her for granted, and it was a real big wake-up,” he said.
