Erika Jayne Accuses ‘RHOBH’ Fans Of ‘Dehumanizing Her!’
Erika Jayne believes that fans have been overly harsh toward her due to an overload of “sensationalized headlines.” The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star spoke to ET about her ongoing personal and legal issues and addressed the drama that is currently playing out on the show with Sutton Stracke.
Fans know that the 50-year-old reality star has been embroiled in legal battles connected to her past life with estranged husband, Tom Girardi. The couple has been accused of embezzling settlement funds owed to Tom’s former clients, including family members of victims of a 2018 plane crash.
Tom and his law firm, Girardi Keese, were forced into a Chapter 7 bankruptcy in December 2020, one month after the reality star announced that she had filed for divorce. Many of the alleged victims are now going after Erika because they believe that she benefited from money transferred from her husband’s firm.
Sutton was accused of spreading rumors about Erika’s involvement in the embezzlement scandal during Season 12 filming season.
“It’s not a good place to be and I feel like the court of public opinion is also hard to navigate because people don’t have all of the facts, and they tend to gravitate towards sensationalized headlines,” Erika told the outlet.
“I think people have sort of dehumanized me into this place,” she said.
She denied claims that she had brushed off the severity of the accusations, commenting— I’m fighting literally for my life.”
She clarified that public scrutiny has eased a bit, in recent days.
“Some of the immediate pressure has been lifted and time has gone on,” she said. “I’m going to keep smiling.”
The Bravo star admitted that her relationship with Sutton remained “fragile” but added that there’s hope for better days in the future.
“We’re not going to be forced into kumbaya,” she said, adding that she believed that their issues could be worked out.
“Work that out at our own… timing, not everyone else’s,” the “Pretty Mess” personality said.
Fans watched Erika and Sutton peruse a dating app on the most recent episode of the show, enjoying lighthearted banter.
“I think that she’s got you know big balls to be on the app,” Erika quipped, joking that she vets her potential dates “almost like a presidential candidate” before agreeing to connect in person.
Erika explained that she remains focused her herself as she continues to navigate through challenges.
“I think that going to therapy and really doing the work and looking at yourself and talking about it and confronting it is the best thing I can do for myself,” she said.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills airs on Wednesdays at 8 pm, ET, on Bravo.
