Craig Conover Reveals Why He Told Kathryn and Not Austen About the Naomie Hookup!
Craig Conover spilled the tea behind his decision to confide in Kathryn Dennis amid a rough patch with his friend and Southern Charm co-star, Austen Kroll, during a June 23 appearance on Watch What Happens Live.
“The problem is that I don’t tell [Austen] secrets anymore, I don’t trust him anymore,” Craig told John Pringle during the premiere episode, referring to Austen telling Craig’s girlfriend, Paige DeSorbo, about his hookup with another woman.
“Like, where it started was in the spring. I was newly single because me and Natalie broke up,” Craig explained. “So now it’s summer. I’ve been hanging out with Paige, but we’re not exclusive, and I had, like, rebounded with Natalie, which only happened twice. And I told Austen about it. But what Austen didn’t know is I called Paige and told her.”
Craig, who appeared on the late-night chat show alongside Shep Rose, revealed why he chose to tell Kathryn Dennis about hooking up with his ex, Naomie Olindo, and not his pal, Austen.
A fan asked Craig why he “could trust Kathryn with [his] secret about hooking up with Naomie when she is just as big of a pot-stirrer as Austen.”
“They’re just two different things. And Kathryn, I trust,” he said. “I mean, Austen is doing great these days, but Kathryn’s never burned me and that goes a long way with me. Once you kinda lose my trust, it’s hard to get back.”
WWHL host, Andy Cohen, pointed out that “Kathryn told Shep” his secret, and Shep nodded in agreement.
“Then I shouldn’t trust anyone. But it shouldn’t have been a secret in the first place,” Craig responded.
Shep then revealed that Austen said to him—“No, that didn’t happen. [Craig] didn’t hook up with Naomie in Las Vegas,” and that it was Kathryn who confirmed the rumor.
“Maybe I got it backwards,” Craig said, seemingly reconsidering his position.
Fans know that Craig and Naomie split in September 2017, after their relationship deteriorated in front of Bravo cameras. Naomie left the series after Season 6, but returned for Season 8, renewing viewer interest in the ex-couple’s history.
Craig and Naomie met as students at the College of Charleston when Craig was a senior and Naomie was a freshman. The couple went Instagram official in May 2015, after reconnecting in 2014. Fans learned that they had moved in together later that year, on the Season 3 premiere of Southern Charm. Craig gave Naomie a promise ring during the second episode.
“I did want to give her something that symbolizes how I feel about her and that she can wear around with her,” Craig told the Daily Dish, at the time. ”I know that she wanted the same thing. It’s kind of like a fun teaser.”
The pair ran the New York City marathon together in 2016, a few months after vacationing in Italy. They celebrated Craig passing the Bar Exam in April 2017, before parting ways in September 2017.
Craig went on to date Natalie Heganauer and Naomie moved on with Metul Shah. Naomie and Metul split up in July 2021. Craig and Natalie cut ties in May 2021, and Craig confirmed a romance with Paige in October 2021.
In February 2022, Naomie confessed that she had to “beg” her way back on the Bravo cast.
“I had to, like, beg my way back,” Naomie said on the “Skinny Confidential Him & Her” podcast. “I was like, ‘Guys, please. I know I quit and I know I told everybody to f— off, but please I’m very depressed and I really want to come back. I don’t know what I’m going to do if I’m back in Charleston.’ They were like, ‘All right.’ “
Fans learned of Craig and Naomie’s post-split hookup, last month.
“Neither one of us ever thought we would get back together,” Naomie said, in a June interview with PEOPLE. “This happened a year ago now and it was sort of a one or two-off situation where you just know each other and you’re comfortable around each other and you have some fun.”
“It was almost like, a bit of closure at the same time because we had been together for so long and now we finally had a friendship again now that so much time had passed,” she said. “But really, it was nothing more than that.”
