Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino Owes IRS $2.3 Million In Unpaid Taxes!
Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino owes the IRS a lot of money after serving time in prison.
Jersey Shore alum, Mike, is back on the IRS’s radar after he left prison for tax evasion charges. In 2019, The Situation served months in prison from January to September. His tax troubles began in 2014 when he was charged with federal tax fraud charges. According to The Sun, Mike was hit with a tax lien in April for debts to the IRS that span the course of several years from 2010 up to 2016. A New Jersey clerk confirmed that Mike’s case is an open and outstanding lien with the IRS, totaling $2.3 million.
In January 2020, Mike paid $337,693 in restitution for his tax evasion case. Despite his judgment being paid off, Mike was sentenced to two years probation. The terms of his probation included completing 500 hours of community service, working at least 30 hours a week refraining from committing another federal, state, or local crime, and more.
Mike’s publicist told The Sun, “Michael Sorrentino has been working diligently to comply with his current and past tax obligations, and he will continue to do so.” After he was released at the end of 2019, Mike took to Twitter to say, “Probation officer just left!! Community service completed. I’m a free man. Probation is over!! The Comeback is always greater than the Setback.”
Mike, 39, welcomed his son, Romeo, with his wife, Lauren, whom he married in 2018. The couple shared the great news on an episode of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. Mike’s child, Romeo Reign Sorrentino, was born weighing 6lbz and 8oz in May 2021. At the time, the couple captioned a photo of Lauren holding their baby, “We having a baby situation.”
Lauren told ET after the birth of Romeo. “Mike leads our family by example, with going through our past tragedies and trying to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off.” She continued, “I looked at him lost when this happened, like, ‘I don’t know what to do, I don’t know how to recover from this.’ And he just kept doing the next right thing.”
Mike has been keeping a straight life ever since he left prison. The Jersey Shore star mostly posts from the gym as he puts in the work to maintain his ripped figure.
