Mama June Unbothered About Losing Custody Of Alana!
Mama June is now reacting to losing custody of her daughter, Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson, 16, to her other daughter, Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Efird, 22.
Mama June opened up after she lost custody and revealed that she is at peace with the court’s decision. While talking to Page Six’s Virtual Reali-tea, she said that Alana made her own choice to stay with her sister. “People don’t understand the custody thing. It’s not like somebody ‘lost custody.’ In the state of Georgia, you do temporary guardianship every year and [Alana] had been with [Lauryn] in my addiction.”
Lauryn was first granted temporary custody over Honey Boo Boo in 2019 with her father’s permission. At the time, Mama June was arrested on drug possession charges that year after she was found with ex-boyfriend, Geno Doak. Since then, Mama June has been taking her sobriety seriously. She is now 29 months sober and married to a new man.
In the interview, Mama June Shannon explained that despite losing the custody battle, she has a great relationship with all her daughters. Shannon also added that she talks with Honey Boo Boo frequently. “Alana’s fixin’ to be 17 in just a couple months. So honestly, me and Pumpkin sat down and was just like, ‘Hey, it’s not like I don’t see Alana, it’s not like I don’t talk to her.”
Mama June also revealed that nothing much has changed with her relationship with Alana. “Because I do. I do see her, I do talk to her. We do communicate. So it wasn’t like any difference. The only difference is she’s not sitting right here beside me in my home every day.” The Mama June: Road To Redemption star added that she is proud that Lauryn stepped up in the early days of her substance abuse. “I’m very thankful for her because the situation could have been a lot different.”
Shannon continued, “Pumpkin stepping up, I’m very grateful because it could have turned into a bad situation. At the time Alana went to go live with Pumpkin at the beginning, I couldn’t even take care of my own self — more or less take care of anybody else.” Things are going great for Mama June at the moment since she is vacationing with her husband in Florida.
Mama June and Justin Stroud recently got married to her husband in a secret courthouse wedding after less than a year of knowing each other.
