Omar Zaheer had a lot to say about his time on Survivor and one cast member who spread lies about him.

In Omar’s ‘Deep Dive’ podcast, he opened up about something that happened to him during his time on the island. “I thought a lot about, ‘Do I talk about this? Do I not talk about this?’ But I think it is important to talk about it because it was a very important part of the experience. And it’s something that I hope other people don’t necessarily face. For me, it’s important to get that closure, and to get that information out there.”

Omar added that it felt wrong for him not to share part of the journey that was so traumatic to him. The Survivor cast member revealed that when he went to Ponderosa on Day 23, he was met with people saying, “You are a malicious, evil person who I have no respect for, that systematically eliminated people of color in favor of Jonathan and Lindsay, and we have no respect for you, and you’re so lucky you didn’t make it to the end because we would have embarrassed you in front of everybody at the Final Tribal Council.”

He admitted that it reached a point he regretted ever joining the show. “I tried to play a hard but fair game, but hurt people in a very deep emotional level that I wasn’t intending to do.” Later on, Omar discovered Drea Wheeler was the source of the vindictive allegations. Omar went on to detail the lies Drea spread at Ponderosa. Wheeler would tell people that Omar, a devout Muslim, would pretend to pray but was really strategizing.

Drea also accused him of asking production what time it was under the pretense of prayer, but it was really to know how much scrambling time he had. Not only that, but Drea Wheeler also alleged Omar’s story about his late father was a lie. This lie crossed the line for Omar who added, “It’s like, don’t talk about my dad that way, that’s crazy!” Omar said he thought Drea went against him because it was her way to reconcile the Omar she knew and loved in the game vs. the Omar who betrayed her.

Since the show, he has healed and even tried to reach out to Drea.“I tried for months,” Omar revealed. “Because for months I thought that I was the problem. And then,  just realizing the magnitude of it and talking with a lot of psychologists, I realized it wasn’t me that was the problem. So, closure there is not something that I need, because I’m depending on myself for healing now.”

Omar also revealed that this behavior was not limited to him and that other members were also victims. “This behavior was not restricted to just me. There were lies told about other people on very personal, deep levels.”
