Mama June Speaks On Her Relationship With Daughters Alana & Pumpkin!
Mama June revealed how her relationship with her daughters is doing now that she is in recovery.
In an interview with Us Weekly, Mama June opened up and revealed that it hasn’t been an easy journey with her daughters. “It’s a work in progress,” she revealed. The Mama June: Road To Redemption star has been sober for 29 months straight. Talking about her sobriety, she said, “I realized that it wasn’t the life for me. Rebuilding my life is hard and kind of weird at first but then it’s like, this isn’t so bad.”
The upcoming season of Mama June: Road To Redemption will mainly focus on Alana’s custody battle. Shannon shares Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson, 16, and Lauren ‘Pumpkin’ Thompson, 22, with ex, Mike Thompson. Mama June told Us Weekly that getting clean was something she had to do to mend her relationship with her daughters. “They know that I’ve been clean. When we go on live or TikTok, and someone asks them if their mom is clean. They say she’s been clean for 3 years.”
Shannon added that the constant questions about her sobriety are like “beating a dead horse.” “For people to be able to move on, you’ve got to stop… If you keep on living in the past, all you’re gonna do is keep looking back and you’re not gonna see what’s in the front windshield.” When asked about what she thinks of Honey Boo Boo’s relationship with boyfriend, Dralin Carswell, Mama June revealed her daughter’s boyfriend is a good guy.
The reality TV star continued, “Yes, I have met Dralin. He’s good and they’ve been together over a year. Shannon also added a lot of people have a problem with Alana’s boyfriend because of their age gap. “Alana and Dralin were the same age as Pumpkin and Joshua. They weren’t condemning Pumpkin at the stake, but now with Alana, they are. A lot of Alana’s hate comes not just from the age difference but because he is also a different race.”
Mama June explained her current relationship with her daughters as good. “We see each other, we talk. They know when they need me that I’m here.” Shannon continued, “I still understand where they’re at. … I was pissed off as hell [to start], but now that I’ve been in recovery, you know, I can [see] why they did the things that they did.”
