In an ET exclusive clip, Tamar reveals why she decided to attempt to take her own life, noting that her 7-year-old son would be better off without her.

Logan was the reason why I made that decision. I just felt like he deserved better. I felt like I was embarrassing him, being a fool on TV,” Tamar expressed to Taraji as she broke down into tears. “You thought he would be better without you?” a shocking Taraji asked for clarification. “I thought in that moment,” Tamar replied.

A voiceover by ET’s Kevin Frazier explained that Tamar sat down with Taraji in November — just four months after the singer was found ”unresponsive” by then-boyfriend, David Adesefo, at the Ritz Carlton Residences in Downtown Los Angeles where the couple is currently staying.

Tamar continued explaining why she tried to take her own life in the name of her son. “I didn’t want him to be embarrassed in front of his friends. Here is this loudmouth ghetto mama,” she said.

Details in the video note that Tamar describes the night she attempted to commit suicide as the “lowest point of her life.” The singer added, “Because I knew that, that’s not what my whole life really was — that’s not who I was.”

Taraji P. Henson, best known for her role as Cookie Lyon in the Fox drama series ‘Empire,’ takes mental health seriously. In a sit-down alongside her cohost, Tracie Jade Jenkins, the actress discussed Tamar‘s upcoming episode with Kevin Frazier.

“I love that she felt safe enough to come here with us,” Taraji said to Kevin. “I’m not some celebrity that just slapped my name on this talk show. I am literally struggling myself!” she concluded.

The video segues back to a scene where Taraji embraces Tamar. “I just wanna hug you, baby. Come here,” Taraji says as she and Tamar hug and cry it out. Towards the end of the clip, viewers are given an update on how Tamar is doing now, noting that the singer and reality star says she’s “sober and working on her sound mind and body.”
