Braunwyn Windham-Burke Reveals Lala Kent Supported Her Through Her Sobriety And Producers Hid Her Alcoholism On ‘RHOC’!

Viewers know that Braunwyn Windham-Burke kicked off Season 15 of the Real Housewives of Orange County by confessing that she is an alcoholic. The reality star recently opened up to Lala Kent about her sobriety journey on her podcast, “Give Them Lala…With Randall.” 

Braunwyn, who was only two weeks sober when filming season began, enlisted the help of support groups and sought advice from Captain Sandy Yawn, and the Vanderpump Rules star.  

“I messaged Lala probably two or three days [after deciding to become sober]. I knew she was sober and I found her on Instagram and said, ‘Hi, I’m Braunwyn. How did you do this? Can I do this?’” the mom of seven revealed.  

“And Lala was so sweet. She got right back to me. She was like ‘I’m so proud of you. Yes, you can do it. My cast has been supportive.’ So, I just want it to throw it out there that I reached out for help, you know and advice,” the reality star added. 

“I didn’t know in the climate of the shows that we film if it’s possible to stay sober on a reality show that has a lot to do with drinking,” Braunwyn admitted. 

Lala noted that alcohol use often makes reality stars more interesting.  

“I’m sorry, but people with alcohol in them [are] much more interesting. You’re uninhibited, you say crazy shit,” Lala pointed out. “I’ve learned without the alcohol, I’m still saying crazy shit.”

Lala referenced Braunwyn’s boozy weaning party, featured during Season 14. 

“I just looked at you drunk like ‘Fuck yeah, it’s a weening party. She’s done breastfeeding. Awesome,’” Lala said. “So when you reached out to me, it was like ‘Wow, she suffered when the cameras were down just as much as I did.’”

Braunwyn revealed that producers protected her, during her freshman RHOC season. 

“I will say there’s a lot they don’t show. They try to protect us, maybe. Or at least they try to protect me because you don’t see me passed out on the chair later,” Braunwyn shared. “They didn’t air the third day in Miraval when I was walking around literally with a bottle of tequila drinking it straight. I almost got kicked off an airplane and production had to beg [them] to let me on.”
