‘RHOA’ RECAP: Porsha Williams Gushes Over Sugar Daddy Boyfriend Dennis McKinley On Season 11 Premiere!
Real Housewives of Atlanta Recap!
The Real Housewives of Atlanta kicked off its season 11 debut with a bang — not one mention of erstwhile Housewives Kenya Moore or Kim Zolciak — and the current ladies did not skip a beat!
Good googly moogly is how Porsha Williams describes a ring shopping outing with her new beau, Dennis McKinley.
Porsha’s got a man at home — and she’s doing everything in her power to keep this big donor man happy. He’s a night club owner, a hot dog king and runs a weave empire. They’ve have been dating for five months and Porsha is enamored with Dennis’ big pockets heart — she has dollar signs love darts in her eyes. Porsha says the two told each other “I love you” on their very first date, so it’s not shocking they’re already looking for an engagement ring. Porsha and Dennis are going to Miami to celebrate her birthday and support NeNe Leakes for the weekend, and Porsha’s convinced he’s gonna to propose.
Next we catch up with NeNe and Gregg at home gathered with close friends and family. The mood is somber as we learn that Gregg has stage III colon cancer. An emotional NeNe recounts the day — Cinco de Mayo — Gregg was in extreme stomach pain and begged her to take him to the hospital. That’s when he was diagnosed. He was immediately admitted and rushed into surgery. A portion of his colon was removed and he’s currently in remission, but NeNe still has her “moments.” She’s trying to stay strong.
The 63-year-old admits that the lowest point in his battle so far was the moment when he was diagnosed, and he wrote a farewell letter to his wife.
Over at Cynthia Bailey’s lake house — she’s preoccupied in a new relationship with Fox sportscaster, Mike Hill. They met on the Steve Harvey Show, and have been in a long-distance relationship for the past three months. Mike lives and works in Los Angeles, but is willing to move if she’s a keeper. “He has definitely swam in the cool waters of Lake Bailey,” Cynthia announces. “Several times.” She pours herself a glass of Prosecco into a glass of frozen grapes and joins a FaceTime call with her new man. The lovebirds chat about their future and shortly after, her daughter, Noelle enters the room but the two continue their sexy talk. Cynthia realizes Noelle is sitting there listening and she eventually tell her to get lost.
Eva Marcille is back and this time around snagged a peach. She’s given birth to a beautiful grey-eyed baby boy and getting married in three months, and stressed to the max. But she’s made time for a family photo shoot and flexing her model muscles while throwing shade at fellow veteran model, Cynthia Bailey. “The difference between Cynthia and I’s modeling style is about 20 years.” Eva was just a ‘Friend of Housewife,’ last season and managed to get a peach quicker than Marlo Hampton — now I see why!
Since last season, NeNe’s friendship with Porsha has done a complete 180 — the door has cracked wide open! Porsha pays NeNe a visit at her Swagalicious boutique to cheer her up and get some outfits for Miami. Porsha tries on clothes and twerks — much to NeNe’s delight. They both crack up at Porsha’s twerking abilities and the two are like sisters now. NeNe mentions she was planning to go to Miami for a stand-up show, so she and Porsha decide to join forces and combine trips.
Kandi Burruss’ hands are extremely full as her empire grows exponentially. She’s touring with her 90’s girl group, Xscape, in addition to running her Old Lady Gang restaurant, several businesses and raising two kids. Needless to say, she’s not connected to her family like a mother should be as she chases the almighty dollar. She flies the family out to Los Angeles for an award ceremony. In a talking head confessional, Kandi shares that Riley has lost 52 pounds and this is her “glow up!” Kandi tells the family about her desire to have another baby — she still has two girl embryos — but Riley quickly shoots down her absentee mother’s bright idea, “NO more kids!” Riley exclaims. The teen explains to her mom and step-daddy that they’re both horrible parents never around.
Todd Tucker interjects and promptly reminds Riley that the family’s luxurious lifestyle (like Riley’s $100K Porsche truck) comes at a hefty price. “At the end of the day, Riley, for us to afford the things that we have and the lifestyle, people have to work,” Todd scolds Riley, who fires back, “The money doesn’t matter if you’re not around.” At the same time, Kandi receives a text message during a talking head confessional, reminding her that she missed a parent-teacher conference at Ace’s school.
Back in Atlanta, Porsha is organizing her upcoming Miami trip with her sister and personal assistant, Dominic. Porsha wants to invite all the ladies to show NeNe some support during Gregg’s cancer battle — NeNe’s hosting a comedy gig in Miami during the same weekend. Porsha makes it clear, this trip will not be a “sip and see Dennis” — she’s keeping him under tight lock and key for now. Porsha calls Cynthia, Eva and then Kandi. Unlike the other ladies, the call with Kandi is painfully awkward — long pauses — you can literally hear a pin drop. Kandi reluctantly agrees to go despite wanting to hang up the phone and pretend Porsha never called. I’m sure Kandi would have had more enthusiasm for the take-out delivery guy.
Porsha is in all her glory as she prances around her house in a kool-aid red wig. I’m getting Anna Nicole Smith flashbacks as she twirls in mindless excitement and leaps into her sugar daddy boyfriend’s arms when he arrives.
We rejoin Kandi and family in L.A. at the ASCAP Awards ceremony, with baby Ace crying on the sidelines. It’s way pass his bedtime and daddy daycare has clocked out and drinking at the bar.
Finally, Porsha and her man arrive in Miami and she finds out Dennis has history with Kandi. Bravo editors are shady with the “hazard reported ahead” sign in the background as foreshadowing of Dennis and Kandi’s drama to come.
Stay tuned as Dennis McKinley and Kandi Burrusss’ backstory unravels next week on The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
