Dr. Contessa Metcalfe is the newest addition to the ladies of Married to Medicine.

The occupational and preventative medicine physician discussed her background in the military as a flight surgeon, and filmed scenes examining patients on the Bravo reality series. And while everything seemed on the up and up, AllAboutTheTea.com did some digging into Dr. Metcalfe’s credentials and discovered a bombshell!

Checking with the Board Certification and ABMS Maintenance of Certification (ABMS MOC®), AllAboutTheTea.com learned that the reality star is not a Board Certified doctor.

Does it matter if your doctor is board certified?

Yes. Board certification demonstrates a physician’s exceptional expertise in a particular specialty and/or subspecialty of medical practice. Certification by an ABMS MemberBoard involves a rigorous process of testing and peer evaluation that is designed and administered by specialists in the specific area of medicine.

When physicians graduate from medical school and do the appropriate residency, they are eligible for licensure. This is a state-issued permit to practice medicine that means the minimal training and competency requirements have been met. Board certification, on the other hand, implies that the practitioner has gone above and beyond that minimal standard in a particular specialty or subspecialty by way of extra education and study, and has passed a test to prove it.

The reality star’s storyline on Married to Medicine focused on Contessa’s struggle between her career and family balance. During part-one of the Season 5 reunion, Contessa shared that she’s still a part-time doctor, and Heavenly Kimes gave her props for her decision to put her kiddos first.

AllAboutTheTea.com learned that most insurance companies won’t cover claims from doctors that are not board certified and it’s nearly impossible to practice medicine without being board certified.

An Atlanta source informed AllAboutTheTea.com that,

“Contessa has been recently doing PRN (when necessary) work for the VA Hospital.”

In addition, the scenes filmed of Contessa seeing patients in a doctor’s office, were allegedly fabricated.

“She was using other people’s offices to pretend she was seeing patients,” a source tells AllAboutTheTea.com.

Does Dr. Contessa want to be a stay-at-home mom or does she need to stay at home because she’s not board certified? Sound off in the comments!

Part two of Married to Medicine’s Season 5 reunion airs tonight (Friday, March 16) at 8:00 p.m. ET, on Bravo.
