In the wake of the Stoneman Douglas high-school shooting in Parkland, Florida, on Wednesday — the seventh deadly school shooting in the U.S. this year — Kim Zolciak-Biermann has taken extreme measures to protect her brood.

On Wednesday, the mom of six announced that she had purchased bullet proof backpacks for her school-age kids. She posted on Instagram, “I just asked Kroy what can we do as parents to protect our children everyday in this crazy sad world. He said, “best thing we could do for now is get bullet proof book bags” you know I just did! It’s better than not having anything at all. Just thought I would share with you guys. I just found this first on Amazon so I bought it. It’s certified.”

As cell-phone videos surfaced on Wednesday and Thursday of students crouched on a classroom floor, the sound of gunshots echoing in the background, parents across the country have found themselves asking what can they do to protect their kids.

Kim and her husband Kroy Biermann, 32, have four children together: sons KJ, 6, and Kash, 5, and 4-year-old twins Kaia and Kane. In addition to, Kim’s older daughters from previous relationships — Brielle, 20, and 16-year-old Ariana.

Any peace of mind that may come with such a product doesn’t come cheap. Bullet Blocker’s “My Child’s Pack” backpack is currently on sale for $199, but other designs go for up to $490. Guard Dog’s backpacks start at $190 on the company’s website, but are priced as low as $120 on Amazon.

Does a bulletproof backpack provide a sense of control over the insanity we’re living in? Sound off in the comments!
