Lisa Vanderpump Reacts to Mike and Scheana Shay’s Divorce: ‘It’s Quite Disheartening’
At the recent premiere party for The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Lisa Vanderpump spilled a little tea about the current season of Vanderpump Rules and the upcoming season of RHOBH.
First, she touched on Scheana and Mike Shay’s divorce news. The couple filed for a dissolution of marriage petition on Tuesday and cited their date of separation as November 9. Lisa was distraught for the pair.
“Well, you’re going to see some of [what went wrong] on the end of the season.” The Vanderpump Rules matriarch tells E! News. “I’m very protective of Scheana, and with what went down last year — you know, what she talked about [with Mike‘s] addiction — I felt really quite incensed because I have a lot of sympathy for people with addiction.”
But that sympathy quickly turned toward Scheana when Lisa discovered that Scheana was clueless about Mike’s prescription pill dependence.
“I was a little upset with the fact they entered into this marriage without [Scheana] being aware of what she was taking on.”
The couple threw an extravagant wedding and invited their nearest and dearest (and cameras, of course). Now that it’s over, Lisa is standing by Scheana.
“Scheana‘s a great girl, she really is, and to see this fairytale come to an end, it was quite disheartening, really. They are young and they’re growing up, but these — I call them kids, but they’re not really — they’re late 20s, some early 30s.”
To be fair, most of them act like they just dropped out of college. According to Lisa, the breakup of Scheana and Shay is causing ripple effects through the group.
“What is so extraordinary is the fact that the cohesion between this group and the authenticity is why we created this show … because they’ve known each other long. So, you see the splinter effects, the ripple effects, the ramifications of what’s going on.”
Now for the good stuff! We’re only days, nay, hours away from a new season of RHOBH!
Lisa went through hell last year as Lisa “Sudsy” Rinna and Eileen “Soapy” Davidson tried to dethrone the queen of Beverly Hills.
“The shows afforded me some incredible opportunities and I really can’t minimize that, but sometimes it gets very difficult and it was very difficult last year…I had a lot of tears, and I thought, ‘[I] just can’t do this anymore.’ But…I have my new friend Dorit, who I think you’re going to love. She gets herself in a little bit of trouble.”
It might be nice to see someone have Lisa’s back for a change. (Yes, Kyle, I’m giving you a side-eye right now). Lisa continued about her pal, Dorit.
“She’s the newbie, but it did get a little bit heated again. I mean, it always does — I think it’s the whole premise of putting six women together and trips and this and that and the only premise of reality television is to always speak your truth, so there ya go!”
Bravo released the new taglines. Lisa’s is: “The crown is heavy, darlings. So just leave it where it belongs.”
But LVP is very tongue in cheek with her taglines. She explained her “bitch” reference from last season.
“I tried to have fun on the show, and I think that’s what the show should primarily be about, so I always like my taglines to reflect how I’m feeling. And it was just like, ‘OK, you beat me up last year, now back off,’ you know? I think last year was funny. I’m passionate about dogs, not crazy about bitches, so I always like to kind of write my own.”
I’m ready to see Lisa in action. How about you — are you excited about the new season of RHOBH? And will karma pay a visit to Soapy and Sudsy?
